Tell us of your memories of winning big games and doing it in style. For me they are almost non existent, when I say big games I mean big with regards the competition, so I don't mean beating Liverpool 3-0 at the start of a season I mean getting to the Nitty grittiy and doing it, This weekend is one so it made me think about our performances when it matters and the last one I can think of is Fiorentina (a game we ultimately lost) as our last performance in a big game

Big games are not defined by the opponents.

This is definitely a considered theory I look back at even the likes of Boro in the FA cup qtr in 09 we were awful in the 1st half and even the Semi against a 'weakened' UTD team we just scraped through and then failed to turn up in the final.

This weekend sees a game with so much riding on it and I don't care what anyone says, should we not win then forget about Champions League for another season.

Our recent home performances suggest to me that against one of the best away sides in Europe we will struggle this weekend, but will we turn up? will we put in a performance that answers the initial question in this thread?

I hope so.

Seeing Everton win our first trophy in my lifetime, being the FA Cup 1984 against Watford. Even though we were favourites it was a big match due to the lean years since 1970 and the other lot being so dominant in that era..

Spurs 1 Everton 2 Apr 3 1985 - the title was ours!

That was the night we knew the title was "ours",my main memory was tricky Trev taking the P out of Clemantine in the Spurs goal, strolling around him and rolling the ball into the empty net in front of us adoring blue hordes, what a night and a privilege to have been there.

Shout that and that would be one for me now I think of it in terms of most recent
Not that it was a massive massive game, (how big can an FA Cup QF be?) but we had just scraped a weak draw at home after resting half the side and getting battered by the rs. So in that context to go on the road and put in such a dominating performance was huge. We were all pretty down after the 1-1 at home.

Would love to read a proper write up of the Bayern game from someone who was there. The build up, how nervous was the support, the atmosphere....I can't even imagine, my head would blow.
It was amazing mate,I think I was quite relaxed about it all, mainly because we were that good at the time,I remember the shock and silence when Hoeness gave them the lead in the first half,we'd been pretty much on top up to that point,we came out the second half and as one,crowd/team absolutely pummelled them, they were an excellent side, but we battered them, the noise was incredible and its true what Howard said, the Gwladys Street sucked the goals in,great night all four corners of GP were Blue, think they had about 200 in the top balcony,it was a great, great night to be a blue!!!Hope its given you a bit of an insight mate!

I think Gwladys st terrified the bayern goalie, he kept turning round to look at all crowd screaming, and I don't think he had ever faced two forwards that night in Sharpe and Gray who would die for a goal.

Yep Pfaff the Belgian international, top keeper,I also recall the enclosure lobbing stuff at the German bench and Darracott appealing for calm, mad night!!
