2025/26 Beto

Stuck between a rock and a hard place with Beto and Barry. It is not ideal rotating these two from game to game or even giving each a half like yesterday. I imagine both need a run of games to build confidence etc. but whilst Beto can be effective in his own way, Barry looks a million miles off. Given it is all about results it would be a tough call to give either a run of games but if I had to choose I'd go Beto

One for the x-files this I think. Can find no logical reason how a keeper can stop a ball that was nutted straight at him.
Spooky.
when the ball is crossed goalie is at his near post

when beto heads the ball the goalie is running towards his far post as fast as he can

to suggest that it was nutted straight at him is a bit of a stretch when the keeper is on the move and not stationary

the keeper had no time to set up and save the shot, it was purely reactionary at the right time and place with a bit of luck which all keepers need to have

By the same token, we're a lot more relaxed about it because we ended up scoring from it anyway. It wasn't a shocking effort or anything, but it was basically our biggest chance of the game and he missed it, if it had been cleared properly I reckon there'd be a lot more people in here saying 'you can't pass up chances like that at this level'.
You are right. We are all fickle and it is often down to 'rub of the green.'

Agreed. Beto need to be given a run of games with Alcaraz at the 10 to get the best out of him IMO.

Totally unfair that, it’s a valid point. Let’s be clear here, he didn’t play well today, he was just better than Barry. Some of his touches sete horrific and one misplaced pass on the halfway line could’ve cost us the game. Hes got good points but he’s very very limited and limiting. Not accepting that makes you look like a clueless idiot to be honest.
What a load of BS. The guy constantly says stupid stuff for shock value and just to be negative. Go back and read the original comment, if you want to look the fool as well, by all means.

You'll probably get one like, and itll be him.

Problem is that Beto only looks effective after he's been dropped or when coming off the bench.

When he starts he looks dreadful..a bit like the Trossard conundrum for Arsenal.

Needs to have something to prove, to perform
We need to start one of the kids, give him 10 minutes, then sub Beto on. Guarantees 80 minutes of pissed-off Beto.

We saw glimpses of that partnership working well last season and yesterday it was seen to work well again. The problem I see is how we are going into games, some we start very cautious, looking reluctant to go at teams from the off in case we get caught out ourselves. If starting Beto and Charly up top we need to start games the way we came out for that second half and put Palace on the back foot right away.
I wouldn`t mind in certain games to start and extra defensive midfielder along Gana and Garner, with an attacking 3 in front of them, and come out second half with the two lads tearing teams apart for 45 minutes. But there`s plenty of teams that can be got at from the start if we just had the confidence to go at it from the start.

The technique on the header was great. If we get more service like that, he will probably get more comfortable slotting them. Really want Ndiaye to start producing on that end because that will make us very difficult to stop. We don't see it from him nearly enough but he will be a gamewinner if he can create. Nobody has the potential to cause more chaos than Illy.
