2024/25 Beto

Our of the three/four we have this is the only one I would keep.

I think he's earned the opportunity to stay.
Well, there is an utter chasm between DCL and Beto, but its pointless when Dom is out for 3months every time his hammy pops.

We really need fitter and better options, but lets be honest, we arent spending 180 quid on 3 new Strikers.

Just been talking about Beto and getting him tied down to a long term contract to stop the likes of Leeds sniffing around @Goat

Said he wants to build the team around him.
SACK

That’s a sentimentality overdose
Kenwright will be applauding from the grave
Oof!

I'm assuming TFG aren't gonna be 'free-spending', and he'd be a cheaper / useful long-term option alongside a more snide finisher.

To me he's shown he wants it, and that's waay more than we've seen from others (DCL) and we're not offering European football either*

🤞 *yet...

£60 a striker, we signing them from a local pub league or something?

Tbf, some of our recent strikers could have been.

I agree here to an extent.. but we can’t get any money for DCL but could maybe get £20 million for Beto.

So we could potentially get a better first choice striker in if we keep DCL rather than Beto. Not straightforward.

DCL will require a fee I'm sure at this time and will make much more than Beto does.

Plus we'd then need to get a 1st choice striker and a third for when DCL is inevitably injured again.

True, but if we sold Beto and kept Calvert-Lewin we'd certainly need to buy an extra striker on top of the one we're already planning to get due to how injury prone DCL is and the likely wage discrepancy between DCL and Beto probably means that £20m isn't going very far at all.

We really don't need to be paying DCL six figures every week to spend his time between the treatment table and the bench.

Oh I absolutely wouldn’t be giving DCL £100k a week or anything silly.

Who knows what TFG will do, but keeping average players will get us nowhere. Selling beto and the likes of james garner, Patterson etc can actually help us financially this summer. We need to be ruthless if we have any ambition to move forward

Well it could go quite far, if we say got 20/22 mil for beto. That could get us 50mil worth of players, basically pays for a delap at 30mil and a 20mil winger or midfielder

You can't just replace the whole squad in one summer though. Signing an entire new first 11 just won't happen at once.

It's not feasible at all. Some average players will have to be kept to fill the squad.

We signed 7 last summer, With no money. I don’t think we will sign 11 obviously, but 8 or 9 should easily be doable.

*accepting on this model we have to sell players at a profit in subsequent years.
Well we will always sell players. Selling Branthwaite for big money the following summer could cover 2 summers and we could be 100mil better off next season. Then you need to get into Europe which adds more money on top. Say we spend 160mil and 40mil every year for 4yrs.

Even city and Liverpool need to sell, they try to sell youngsters or make profit on squad players. And that’s how we will need to do it moving forward. I wouldn’t want us to sell our best player every summer, but selling a few squad players, shouldn’t be a problem

I really question the sanity of any Evertonian that would rather see us keep Calvert-Lewin over Beto next season.

Beto has more than proved himself as a useful striker since Moyes arrived as is within touching distance of double figures for goals in basically half a season of regular footy. On top of that is he’s committed to the club and hardly ever injured.

Such an easy decision.
Very much this.

Not sure he'd get out of bed for anything less at this stage of his career/life - unless he's got absolutely no options and comes grovelling back to the negotiating table...
