"Best squad in 25 years+"

The whole league is very good as a whole right now, and you can't take any week off. Who would have thought Stoke would be rocking Shaquiri after those years with that trebuchet Delap?
 

Interesting to note Naismith,Mirallas,Gibson and McGeady mentioned as possibly leaving.

All four on my 2nd list of players either out of contract in summer,not good enough or simply unfavoured.

Most notable was Martinez stating that the squad is too big / very big. I think the 13 i listed as possible "outs" and with ideally 7+ ins would be a much better balance.

Still cant discount the need for squad players and the Tarashaj proposed deal would be good planning for the summer when 5 players are out of contract and also of course fill the AM position behind Barkley meaning we have cover there and possibly competition for Barkley if Tarashaj is as good as has been rumoured.

I very much hope that although theres enourmous focus on the cup game today and also the league position that plans are underway to continue revamping the squad.

I agree with this almost I'd bring 7 in GK RB CM AM LWx2 ST. Out would go Howard, Hibbert, Mattioni, Oviedo, Gibson, Junior, Barry, Mirallas, McGeady, Naismith, McAleny, Osman, Pienaar and Kone. Some would go this window McGeady, Naismith, Mirallas, Gibson and Howard the remaining players would go in the summer. It's a big change but then it truly would be Martinez squad.

He'll keep barry and kone till the end of next season when theyre out of contract.

otherwise id forgotten about junior and mattioni, think both contracts expire this summer so 7 players out of contract.
 

So IF we sign Byram we have:

1-- Foulds £250k i think who has effectively taken Galloways place in the youth sides. Very good forward planning i think and shows that we are focused on professionally developing our entire playing staff at every level.

2-- Tarashaj £3mil i think who 'should' be backup/competition for Barkley although as some have mentioned he may get some games on the left for us too.

3-- Byram £3.7mil and serious competition for Coleman.

Tarashaj and Byram tick two boxes in the squad for us and i think with the number of "outs" expected are important signings.

Squad wise we still need competition for Lukaku and also a GK and LW for the first eleven. I think we also need a CM but not immediately.

Same agent as rom so probably a favor to keep him happy, supposedly talented but always injured so just a punt to see if he could stay fit on loan...hasn't done so though
 
Okay havnt read every page but this squad is one of the best, think you all forgot from 1991 till about 2008 we we utter [Poor language removed] except the Fa cup win in 95, untill Moyes took over we were a sinking ship.
The league has changed alot but lets put it this way, Rom/Barks/Del/Stones/bains/Coleman/mirrallas will get in every team from 91 onwards

The 95 and 96 teams at the time were very good. They had balance and a keeper. We have no keeper of note and no left midfield.

I like the way hes building the squad, just need a couple more ins this window and a few players out.

Gareth Barry doesn't turn 50 until 2030.
 
If we add Byram here's the 'quality' we have in the squad:

GK -- ??? / Robles
LB -- Baines / Garbutt(loan)
LCB -- Jagielka / Mori / Galloway
RCB -- Stones /Browning(inj)/ Holgate /Pennington
RB -- Coleman / Byram
DM -- Barry / McCarthy
CM -- Besic / Cleverley
LW -- ??? / ???
AM -- Barkley / Tarashaj
RW -- Deulofeu / Lennon
CF -- Lukaku / ???

The rest:

Howard - Hopefully off to Colorado
Hibbert - Contract Expiring
Oviedo - Contract Expiring
Gibson - Contract Expiring
Osman - Contract Expiring
Pienaar - Contract Expiring
McGeady - For Sale
Naismith - For Sale
McAleny - Not good enough
Kone - Contract up in 2017
Mirallas - Who knows?

So we basically have a full team of players who could/should be moved on + we need:

1st choice GK
1st Choice LW
Competition at CF
Competition at LW

If Byram signs then i think these 4 positions would be filled in the summer with the additional TV revenues and also the wages from outgoings used to increase salaries for our 1st team players and on incomings.

I think as @davek has stated a few times we are very close to seeing Martinez's squad but we will only see this once he is able to fill these key positions.
 
@LinekersLegs if we can fill the squad with the 4 players missing in my above post do you think this is enough quality strength in depth ?

Or do you think that we would need more players in? I think the u21s being a year older next season may have some players who could step up if needed such as Kenny, Ledson, Henen, Grant etc but i also think they would benefit from games on loan.

Just to throw some names out there but if we signed Butland, Yarmolenko, Dembele and an additional u21 winger whilst moving on a lot of players (most of those ive also listed above) i think we would have a strong enough squad for a season in the premier league and als then be in a position to only need to bring in perhaps Galloway/Holgate type signings or the real top notch Xfactor type players to take the team up a level.

I dont think we are far off.
