Who was that one Ranieri signed when he was at chelsea? Think he was Russian captain at one time. Went to portsmouth on loan but went back to chelsea until mourinho got shut?

He was reasonably good. Not 'set the world alight' good, but I don't remember him having a bad game for either club.

Good call, that. Had Dzagoev for top goalscorer for his country at the last euros, as part of a yankee*. Think I got 9/1 for him IIRC.

*Jelavic let me down.

Had Jela myself mate - oh boy was that money wasted from my betting account...

Yeah Dzagoev basically didn't get along with Cappelo and was sidelined massivle yby him - as happened to a few others as well, since he has been given the boot and they brought back a couple of players like Dzagoev they are actually looking a pretty decent team again

Dzagoev has been REALLY good in that Defensive midfield role as well - what has helped masively is that the new Russia coach is still the coach of Dzagoevs team as well - CSKA - bit of a throwback to the old soviet times when the national manager often was a coach for spartak etc as well.

IF he could adjust to the difference in culture though Dzagoev would be a player who would be a brilliant signing for us for 14-15m.

Will get a decent chance to see what i mean during the Euros as he we will be playing that holding/deep lying playmaker role for the national team

No mate, Donetsk is not part of Russia, but as he wasn't actually bought by Chelsea from Shakhtar and was in fact bought from Anzhi who are in fact a team from Dagestan - which is part of Russia, i don't see how where Donetsk happens to be is that relevant.

My bad thought he was from donestk, genuinely was wondering though as news on the whole situation over there wierdly went quiet

Smertin? If i remember correctly was the national team captain at the time and Abramovich basically signed him on his own as he wanted to him for various reasons at Chelsea

Was signed by Anzhi from Dontesk mate for 30m or so, spent a year in russia then sold on to Chelsea as Anzhi had financial problems

Think it is basically the same old same old mate, try to stay clear of politic talk on here though in the main - else me and Finners end up getting into it too much

Yeah, that's him - and you're right about abramovich getting him. IIRC Ranieri didn't speak the lingo at the time, and the press were raising their eyebrows at it, but I thought he was a neat & tidy DM meself.

Played really well for Portsmouth i seem to recall when Chelsea loaned him after he arrived, but never got a look in really back at Chelsea, was a good player mate, then again the year after he arrived Mourinho came in and that midfield was a quality one to have to try break into, makelele, geremi all who could play the same position...

Remember when Bilyaletdinov was the star of the Euro 2008 Russian team, except he didn't really get a game?

Hiddink well and truly blagged Moyes with that recommendation, the arl arse.
