Here's a penny for your thoughts,
incidentally you can keep the change.
And here's a book of etiquette
I bought to keep you sane.
Our mutual friends say make amends
and a stitch in time saves nine or ten
Good bye flesh of my flesh

Flesh of my flesh - Orange Juice

Accroches-toi a ton reve. Quand tu vois ton bateau partir. Quand tu sents -- ton coeur se briser. Accroches-toi a ton reve.

Sir

One that gets more relevant every year;

And you run and you run, to catch up with the sun but it's sinking,
Racing around to come up behind you again,
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older,
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death...

Always find the lyrics to Suburban War by Arcade Fire particularly poignant.

In particular, this section:

With my old friends, I can remember when
You cut your hair, I never saw you again
Now the cities we live in could be distant stars
And I search for you in every passing car

Never tire of hearing this anthem against the media and its propaganda

Everywhere I Go
by Oysterband

The black wind blows like you've never seen
And your TV screen is filled with snow
And the naked truth has an unmarked grave
Between the waves on your radio
And war is peace and peace is war
And less is more and yes is no
They want to tell you this, they want to tell you that
Just hold your hat when the black wind blows

CHORUS
Everywhere I go I hear what's going on
And the more I hear the less I know
Everywhere I go I hear what's going on
And the more I hear the less I know

And they're all tripped out on the ship of state
They're running late for the breakfast show
And God likes guns, doves are hawks
And Jesus walks in Idaho
And the food we buy won't go bad
But the cows are mad and the chickens glow
They want to tell you this, they want to sell you that
Just hold your hat when the black wind blows

I'd have to think a while about this. There must be so many. So I'll give a couple of Lowell George lyrics from the Little Feat years.

Anyone who hadn't listened to 70s Feat has missed one of - if not the greatest band of the 70s. Commercial success doesn't always mean greatness (George was such a perfectionist that artistic difference and the like cost them dearly) but what a band they were live and what an incredible slide guitarist Lowell was with a tremendous voice.

I been warped by the rain, driven by the snow
I'm drunk and dirty don't ya know, and I'm still, willin'
Out on the road late at night, Seen my pretty Alice in every head light
Alice, Dallas Alice

I've been from Tucson to Tucumcari
Tehachapi to Tonapah
Driven every kind of rig that's ever been made
Driven the back roads so I wouldn't get weighed
And if you give me, weed, whites, and wine
And you show me a sign
I'll be willin', to be movin'

I've been kicked by the wind, robbed by the sleet
Had my head stoved in, but I'm still on my feet and I'm still, willin'
Now I smuggled some smokes and folks from Mexico
Baked by the sun, every time I go to Mexico, and I'm still

And I been from Tucson to Tucumcari
Tehachapi to Tonapah
Driven every kind of rig that's ever been made
Driven the back roads so I wouldn't get weighed
And if you give me, weed, whites, and wine
And you show me a sign
I'll be willin', to be movin

(Willin). Still moves me after 45 years. RIP Lowell.

Hold a chicken in the air
Stick a deckchair up your nose
Buy a jumbo jet
And then bury all your clothes
Paint your left knee green
Then extract your wisdom teeth
Form a string quartet
And pretend your name is Keith

Skin yourself alive
Learn to speak Arapahoe
Climb inside a dog
And behead an eskimo
Eat a Renault Four with salami in your ears
Casserole your gran
Disembowel yourself with spears
