MONSTER !!!!
I've driven past Darlington many times and never smelt anything which has even a whiff of Kopite !
Either because you're heading in the wrong direction - you need to head South West not North East - or because the wind wasn't blowing in a Westerly direction from Norway on those occasions.

Why the hell couldn't bigger clubs do a round and donate some cash? Like couldn't Sunderland, Newcastle and Middlesboro donated a few thousand each to keep them alive?

Because the money would just be pissed away, or nicked. As an aside, its not just Darlington who will (probably) have died this month - Kettering are very close to the abyss as well.

The problem in lower league football is that a lot of the owners are either incompetent, are out to make a quick buck, or are basically criminal (or all three - as George Houghton was at Darlington), and that the FA have allowed all this to go on. What is desperately needed is for the FA to protect each clubs unique history and property (ideally with some kind of licence system that can be transferred to Supporters Trusts, and requiring council covenants on grounds meaning that they can only be used for football), this would help to deter the more outrageous spivs and would allow phoenix clubs (as happened to Chester) to preserve as much as possible, and have the best chance of success upon reformation. They should also come out and back the fans trust (as again at Chester, and at Wrexham) as the ideal and preferred model for football ownership.

Finally the FA should look at dealing with problems before they arise - there are still very dodgy things going on now in the lower leagues (for instance, how is it that Fleetwood have all this money all of a sudden? How do Crawley have so much money? Could either club ever hope to survive if this money left?) that need to be investigated and dealt with.

I still think the FA could have done something about this. There's enough money in football ffs. Hopefully Balotelli will do one more awesome thing.

ust heard on ssn that a supporters fund has raised 50k and are asking to keep the club operational for another month, obviously hoping to find a solution within that month. When you put it into perspective, 1 weeks wage for an average prem player would keep this club going for a month,,,, ludicrous. Some of the top players need to remember the grass roots clubs who gave them a start on the road to riches they now have.

That's why the game, in this form, doesn't actually work for so many teams.

They won't be the last.

Cheers for posting Lien , great read .

128 years of a club , nearly gone , must be horrible for those closely associated with it , as has been said it wont be the last .

Hope they find a solution .

That shows what's wrong with football , today. A club 128 yrs old raises 50k just to stay alive for another month. Yet, a few months ago, a player who earns FIVE (?) times that amount EACH WEEK refuses to play.
