2000s best album so far?

For me, easily-

Arctic Monkeys first album for me. Raw, uncut energetic brilliance that made people sit up and take note. Still very young and fresh faced, some would argue that album had a degree of immaturity to it but thats what made it so good.

Since then Alex Turner has crawled so far up his own arse he's coming out his mouth. As soon as they 'made it' they lost that unique sound that set them apart, commercially you cant argue with what they've done but now they sound like just another over produced play it safe band. There was for me something special about that album, they could have been this generations Clash instead they embraced the status quo (Not the band)

Several number 1 albums, sold out arena tours is great for the pocket but legacy wise history wont remember them as the band which defined a generation

***Takes cover as the fan boys line up their 'the bands grown up arguements'

I think their next album will decide it (probably be their last apparently)...I think they've done brilliantly in so many different areas of music to make them a real era defining band. But yeah if their next album is like AM and too over-popped then I won't take notice.
Agree though, their first album was beyond superb.

The albums since the first have been good but not great. There isn't one i'd put up against classic albums of other decades and argue that it's at least equal. For me the measuring stick of an era defining band is being able to make that arguement for at least 2 or 3 albums

I respect them for wanting to explore new sounds and evolve, great bands do that (Prime example The Beatles & The Stones) but not at the expense of losing what set them apart in the first place

Took me a while to think of anything but as soon as I thought of Untrue it was pretty obvious in terms of influence.

All the indie ones mentioned are plausible but Burial effectively created a new genre which still can be heard today.
Totally agree.

I remember being blown away upon my first listen of Untrue, and it massively influenced my taste in electronic music from then on. I still listen to music in the genre quite a lot.
