Sexy Becksy is back. :P Wouldn't go as far as saying he's one of the greatest ever players, but at least he wants to play for England. Always gives his best and he's still got an awesome free kick and crossing skills. Well worth having in for the Estonia game
 
Well, he has been on fire for Real Madrid. If McLaren didn't bring him back he would be cutting off the nose to spite the face! (Yeah, I used a crappy analogy, get over it :P)
 
England will still be crappy until mclaren learns that you can not play gerrard and lampard together, same player just pick one.

England midfield to play -

Beckham - Gerrard - Carrick - J. Cole

IMO lampard should have been the one dropped fromt he England squad after the world cup, he has been utterly [Poor language removed] for England every game for a long time welcome back sir becks.

He's been in fine form for Real so undoubtably deserves a place in the squad. Whether he'll be in the team however is another matter as Gerrard has been playing most of the season for Liverpool on the right. Lampard, for all his detractors, has yet again notched up 20 goals this season from midfield. Should be interesting to see who goes where.
 
But amidst all of Lampards PL goals, he continues to do sod all when he pulls on the national shirt. Essentially a void in the team. McLaren would probably get more done if he put Matty Taylor in the team rather than Lampard.
 
well, hargreaves is a man ure player now in the centre with carrick, when scholes retires it will be those two every week.

as for HRH becksy, how fortunate that the most photographed footballer on the planet is recalled just in time for England to play Brazil at the new wembley.

(i heard someone jabber on like a baboon about beckham being the best player at doing the basics in english football, being that corners and freekicks will now be utilised properly. If the english game is so reliant on just one player for these 'basics' then its time to take the red cross off the st george.)
 

agreed, but his form did wane (sp) (wain?)for england seeing as he was playing league and CL games every week.

mclaren should have fought scholes corner better and not allowed him to be pushed out left mid.

currently its J.cole playing left mid, but he isnt perfect, theres only downing, barry, a.cole and bridge i can think of that are actual left footers capable in that role.

i have always thought rooney was the player most capable of doing the scholes role, him being able to get forward better being a bonus.
 
not convinced by lennon suits and we do need either gerrard OR lampard in the team with IMO carrick and not hargreaves who hasn't played football for a while (has he at all?)

Rooney isn't a striker, he should always play the playmaker role.
 
rooney is the modern day scholes. (but can get forward betetr than scholes)

can gerrard fulfill the right mid role?

hargreaves is essential like carsley is for us. i hate to point him out, but mascherano is a top player, i have been very impressed with his defensive midfield play.
 
I always thought of the England team as a great side. From when I grew up, the Shiltons, the Platts, The Robsons, The Linekars, all were massive when they pulled on the white of England. They were guys you looked up to, who battled and got kicked, who bled and scored, and bled some more. To be honest, English International football has been crap for ages, and I'll tell you why. 1. The manager. Why do you guys keep picking THE worst managers? Seriously, the FA have got the cash, but no brains. Errickson? Maclaren? Hoddle? Taylor? You seroiusly havent a clue!! Filipe Scolari absolutley pisses himself laughing everytime he beats England, who ever he is coaching. I hate the guy, he's not so clever, its just that England have become too predictable! 2. They never pick inform players, and always pick the same mugs. Players like Lennon (seriously, has he ever done anything?) and Lampard seem to be in all the time. Wheres the Robbo? the Keegan? The Adams? Theres no spirit in the side, and no respect for the Managers Axe. They never seem to turn up switched on. Look at the last few campaigns and they were looking good for a run, and looking good, but then they turn up and play some awful stuff. They have forgotten their roots, with all their cashed up lifestyles. Have a look at Brazil. You arent up to scratch, you get the chop. Doesnt matter what your name is. Its different if like Australia, you havent got a massive wealth of depth like England, but at the moment, Id put my money on the green and gold over the English Poofty pants running around!!
 
Mcbain is spot on, lampard especially hasn't turned up for England in years, he doesn't care. kick him out!

The problem with the Manager is that too often there is too much pressure on him from all the papers and media people, [Poor language removed] the team over just to make sure gerrard and lampard are playing.

Lennon? exactly mcbain, what has he ever done.... SWP has done more (not alot more though!)

Imagine if moyes got the job....
