Beckford is the future

marcus

Player Valuation: £15m
OK I might get shot down in flames here but here goes, Beckford is young, quick and a goalscorer and should be given a extended run in our team to get up to speed with the prem and get the confidence he needs from scoring goals in the premiership.

Making him sub and giving him 60 mins will not do, What is our other options Saha never fit, Yakubu 50 per cent fit and has not done for 2 seasons or Cahill / Fellaini up front as makeshift strikers ???

If we trust in beckford he will come good and get us 10-15 goals a season which is what we need.

Who else could provide 10-15 goals ?

He's 26.

The problem with Beckford is he isn't built to play as a lone striker in the Premiership, he might have been able to cope in League 1, but he can't in a higher divison. When he plays he needs either a more creative player behind him, playing through balls behind the defence for Beckford to run onto, or he needs a strong targetman, such as the Yak to play off of.

Edit:- Just to reiterate the above point, Beckford is 26.

Lol sorry Marcus mate, didnt mean to come across like a pr*ck. It's just that I get everything you said, I just feel that if he was ever going to be premiership quality he would have made it sooner. I mean he only joined Leeds from Non League a couple of years ago.

Late bloomers are a rare item. But they exist. I believe Sheringham was one of them. Same would go for Brian McBride and Niall Quinn.

I'm not putting Beckford in that category yet. But as long as he is wearing a blue shirt we might as well find someone who can partner up with him up front and actually feed him the opportunities.

Beckford is as good as the service provided him. Right now, he isn't getting much in that respect.

We could have Dixie Dean as our lone striker right now and he would have difficulty with the mediocrity holding forth behind him.

Fair Comment Though, It is just the frustration that we do not have a 15-20 goals a season striker, I thought maybe given a good run Beckford could be that forward.

Yeah I'm all up for giving him a try, it is early days yet. I guess I just dont hold much optimism for anyone right now. Still, Ill wake up later and be the blind stupid lovedrunk Evertonian we all become again after a good nights sleep.

That's the bad thing about living in NZ. After watching us fail so entirely I have to somehow live myself through a whole day before I can sleep it off. Sunday (post-Newcastle) was a terrible, terrible day, because I had to write an essay on narrative theory while being, essentially, in mourning.

Best example is still Ian Wright

26 isn't old, it's not as if he's never played football before. Give him time and then judge him, but he needs a run in the team, 3 PL Games is too early to tell.

Im 50/50. He isnt getting the balls in front of him he thrives on BUT he has done nothing of the ball to create space and he is physically weak.

My father in law and brother in law are both season ticket holders at Leeds. Even before Beckford came to us they told me he has a shocking first touch and the player to get, if any, would be Bechio, not Beckford. They have so far been proven right.
