Its not that i dont rate him, i just think we should be aiming somewhat higher than a american unheard of player. He is the type of signing we would have made 4 or 5 yr ago, but now we need to be looking a lot higher

What if we unearthed a great talent ! He could turn out to be something special, if DM goes for him then i'll trust his judgement.And i think depth of squad is vital to any side hoping to build on their success.

Football is more complex than that. Big names are one thing but sometimes you unearth gems that may not be on the front page of the rags every day with their wag in tow. Like Vim says, its obvious we have scouted him and i trust that moyes and his staff feel that he could be a good addition

I agree. The core of our team is built on relatively unknown players(eg pienaar, arteta, cahill) who have come into the Everton team and shown to be great talents. And if he isn't one of these players then we need to impove to depth of the squad anyway

Yeh because american footballers have always displayed a great deal of talent!!
Doesnt have to be a big name but we have moved on from signing no marks, leave that to the likes of citeh and blackburn

A tad harsh when you consider that we have the best ' keeper since Southall currently on our books. As for America not producing world class talent, i sort of agree with you, but on the other hand, who would have thought that Australia could produce the likes of Cahill, Viduka,Kewell etc.Footballing nations develop over time, and i doubt the the usa will be left behind when it comes to unearthing genuine talent, after all, most of their players are learning their trade in some of the best leagues in europe.

I'd take him - if the price was right. I've seen him play a few times and the kid's got potential. I don't think he could come in and be a mainstay in the side straight away, but if he was played in the right games he could be immense.

I don't think he's worth £5m, but who knows? With the silly money that gets paid lately, maybe he could be well worth the gamble.

As for America not having produced a great talent, they have some very handy players, and I'm interested to see how Altidore comes along...
