Welsh bird from that crap indie band catatonia who is now a BBC DJ has announced she won't play music from bands that come from public schools because they've had enough leg ups already. Lots of outrage over this... on one hand it seems a bit harsh given the public schoolers probably had no say on where they went to school but on the other hand it means less airplay for Mumford & Sons.

Thoughts ? Too many public school posh boy bands and not enough working class groups ? or is there no room for class wars in music ?

Most of Pink Floyd are ex public school boys ????

I`m sure there are other great bands too, who are made up of ex public school boys.

As @heatmeiser says, I can see her point, but a sledge hammer and nut springs to mind.

Plus Catatonia were crap and she`s a grade A munter.

It's not true anyway. Just typical Twitter fools blowing things out of proportion as usual.

Whatever you do in life, you have to try and listen to everything and take into consideration where one person has had more of a leg-up than somebody else, and act on it – that’s what I think. When I programme my radio show, I don’t only want to play Anglo-American music. I think with the way the world is right now, we ought to be able to listen to music in all different languages and cultures and simply play great music. ‘Because the bigger the pool of music and artists, the better the quality – not tokenism, but you must take into account who’s had the leg ups. Because if you’ve been through the public school system, you’ve had so many leg ups.

I thought the presenters have to play what they are told to,like it or not,and its not there choice

Daytime/commercial radio would have a playlist, but the production team would select the songs. Evening time, there will be specialist shows, like this DJ, where they can play what they like. (Or have been asked/paid to. Allegedly).

Her hearts probably in the right place but it's an infantile gesture, really. Affluent kids have been heavily represented in the performing arts since about 500 BC.

Its also a bit daft. Like my lad is in a band, the singer/songwriter in it went to a public school, cos he qualified for a music scholorship there. His dad was a copper, his mum was a cleaner.
