New signing on his move to Latics

New signing Jose Baxter is delighted to have joined Latics and is keen to put his nightmare behind him.

The 20-year-old striker until today had found himself himself out of work.

Baxter, who has played for England at under-16, 17 and 19's, rejected the offer of a new two-year-deal at Everton in the summer because of his desire to play regular first-team football.

Then after a move to Crystal Palace never materialised after a pre-season trial, Baxter was left without a club.

"It really hit me on the opening day of the season when I was watching football on the television and was not involved. It was hard," he explained.

The nightmare ended when Latics last week invited Baxter to train with them.

He said: "I am made up to have joined Latics and all I want to do is to kick a football again.

"I have enjoyed the last week here. It is a good, family club and there is a good, young team.

"The club has a great young manager and a good staff."

Of his decision to leave Everton, Baxter admitted it was a difficult decision having been at Everton since the age of six.

He continued: "I could have stayed at Everton and remained sat on the bench.

"My ambition is to be successful and I won't achieve that being on the bench.

"It was a tough decision, but I left because I wanted to play regular first-team football."

Baxter added it was disappointing nothing came of his pre-season trial at Crystal Palace for whom he featured in five friendlies.

"It never really happened and it knocked me back as all I wanted was to find a new club and to play football," he said.

Baxter has a place in Everton's record books as he is the youngest player to appear in their first team beating previous holders Wayne Rooney and James Vaughan.

"It is a great honour to be linked with great players like them," he said.

Baxter last season scored against Latics for Tranmere where he spent a loan period.

He's signed a FOUR MONTH DEAL with them. It's not even until the end of the season. They must have some real doubts about him. I wish him well, but I bet he's regretting turning down that 2 year deal from Everton now, 2 years of guaranteed money.

I wish the lad luck. Can't understand Evertonians getting on his back. Bang out of order.

Fans wouldn't be on his back if he hadn't ****ged the club off upon his departure, and revelled in Tranmere and James Wallace beating us in a pre-season friendly with the following Tweet (which he then deleted):

“Just goes to show. Teams treat players bad and then they leave and come back to absolutely run the game against there (sic) best talent????!! Ha.â€￾

His definition of 'treating players bad' appears to include offering multi-year contracts to players like himself and Wallace. At least Wallace has had the good grace to thank Everton for their help over the years and channelled this into already becoming a good captain for Tranmere. Baxter thought he was Billy Big Bollocks and would get another club really easily. Obviously he thought wrong.

yeah i remember his snide comments about James Wallace and Tranmere,

i couldnt remember why i disliked him,

it annoys me that vic doesnt celebrate his goals,

and it annoys me Nev gets picked in CM. when 100% of blues think Fellani is better there with either Naismith or Mirallas behind Jelavic.

No malice towards the kid, but obviously he's just not in the right mind to ever make it with us. You look at kids that come through and rarely it's about their actual talent, technique and skill with the ball, it's about where their head's at.

Rodwell is a class, balanced act. Lad made it like. Now look at Drenthe. Talent of the generation for the dutch, gone to Real Madrid, never made it cause his head's all wrong.

Baxter is, unfortunately, in a similar mould. I wanted him to make it so badly but then you saw how his twitter feed was all about following brainless fit birds, drink in hand in profile picture, etc. Where's the rap video Baxter lad?

He is gash, hense a 4 month contract with a lower league team.

Also, not playing should be part of your routine Jose, you have barely played in 3 years.
