Barton - What a Fool.

I know what you mean about the studs thing, you look at numerous tackles made over the course of a weekend and technically the studs are up.

But the difference is that one is 2 players going for the ball, and one is throwing yourself recklessly at an opponent with your studs showing. If you make contact you run a serious risk of injuring the other player. Barton done the latter.

Like i said before, at first viewing i thought it was harsh and the ref gave the card based on Bartons reputation, but on second viewing it was warranted.

He didnt throw himself in front of Alonso, he didn't catch him with his trailing leg. Both feet followed by the rest of him went flying into Alonso studs first. So it wasn't just the studs up bit but the whole challenge i'd say got him a red.

He also missed the ball completely and went in at his ankle. Reminded me of the tackle on Eduardo but with more malice. That feller who tackled Eduardo was caught out by his skill and quickness. Alonso was just standing there and just went in on him.

I think its more down to the type of challange. I'm pretty sure that if Barton won the ball as he wasnt going in 2 footed he'd get away with it - or atleast the reff would pull him up and book him if he felt it was a foul.

Tackling has become an artform in itself nowdays. Timing is everything. You can see a slide tackle when the player is 100% concentrating on the ball - our players do it all the time. And you can also see when a player is just going in to steam a player and maybe win the ball - like Barton did. There's a difference between winning the ball and winning the ball and wanting to take the player out as well.

just heard on TV that Blackburn and Portsmouth are interested.

They would be. He'd be going for about 3mill.

If I'm being brutally honest, Barton can be an effective player, hard working and comfortable on the ball with a good engine and drive. He was a stand out player for Citeh, got an England cap, and was working his way to building a good career at a good team - he even said he turned us down before he went to the barcodes. And its why premiership teams are still interested in him.

But he's just a scumbag, scally from Huyton that would be grafting with his nobhead mates robbing cars if he wasnt a footballer. He cant control his anger and doesnt earn respect from his team mates, fans, anyone. He's also the kind of person that is self pitiful, a whinging "why is everyone out to get me" lad not realising or being apologetic to what he's done to people off the field.
