True, but doesn't make what I said any less true. Barry is conscious he has lost his pace so sits deep so he's not exposed. He can't pressure the ball. You can give poor midfield a like Southampton that sort of space but if you give it to top midfielders they will punish you as we saw against City and Chelsea last season, what was it the first minute of the game Fabregas got it completely unopposed and slotted Costa in? Every other team has bullied him out of the game this season, I would bet a lot that we are the team who let him get back into form.

I don't neccesarily disagree. But I think we both know they both will play this weekend.

Our midfield are bypassed in most games, it takes an age for those two to get back into shape. Barry may not have the pace but McCarthy is not the player people make him out to be either. He's been giving the ball away far too often (Watford, City games) when his priority is to shield the ball and get it into the forwards without fuss.

Have faith, he'll come good again. He's trying to cover for Barry a lot of the time, so he's doing the job of two men and it's affecting his own game. Unfortunately Martinez doesn't seem to be able to recognise this.
