Baines to Man city?

Mr. Johnny Lennon

Player Valuation: £225k
Not living in England, I'm not really sure if this is a reliable source. Any thoughts? (since I haven't posted 20 times I can't post links, but it's from goal.com and states Man city is rumoured to bid 15 mill for Baines.)

I've heard Liverpool. I think he's gone this summer. Was surprised to find out he wasn't a boyhood Evertonian :( That was the only thing that gave me confidence that he would stay. Supported 'them'. Sh*t.

Baines won't go dark side,,he knows he wouldn't be able to stroll around town with his kids,,he's to quiet.

Ever heard of Wayne Rooney? (y).

I mean Rooney is Rooney, he was never staying after we finished 17th in 04. Baines is our best player and seems to thrive in his royal blue jersey, why would he follow Pienaar, Lescott and the likes to become a second choice player? We need him to stay if we want to have a prayer of being top 4 or ever 6 next year

If he goes to city or Liverpool I will quit GOT and stop following Everton, and football as a whole.

I'm not even joking. It would be like finding out your mum is dating Piers Morgan. You'd cringe, you'd cry and then you'd say goodbye.

Luckily for me and unluckily for GOT, Baines is a classy guy. If/when he goes, it probably won't be to one of them.

I know what your saying here. If the unthinkable happened and we lost Baines then I'd like to think he would choose to go with dignity. And that would certainly not be the case if the above mentioned happens. I think I'd fall out of love with football a bit.

He'd only go to a top club I reckon, that's the only thing I can see persuading him to leave us.

All of the stories about our top players being asked for are starting to make me nervous though. I did say at one point I didn't like Moyes/Kenwright going out with "we're poor" at every opportunity because it made me feel like our team is a target.

I kinda feel like the sharks are starting to circle.

Just like we're saying we should start sniffing around the relegated teams I feel like the monied teams are starting to circle around us. They all know we could use the funds and badly.

It doesn't matter that he supported Liverpool as a kid. He will be with us at the start of the new season.

Gerrard, Carragher, McManaman, Fowler.....all boyhood Blues.

Agree 100%. And yes, he does seem like a classy guy, can't imagine he'd do that to us.

Leighton Baines is an Evertonian. Believe me, I know.

If you want proof other than my certainty, here you go.

"I actually started as a Liverpool supporter because my dad supported them and I hero-worshipped Robbie Fowler. He was another left-footer and I loved him. I'd go back to school and every time we played I'd pretend I was Fowler.

"I was only young, though, and I didn't like the hustle and bustle of the stands. I lost interest in Liverpool, but I still loved watching football. I was at the 1995 FA Cup final [when Everton beat Manchester United 1-0]. I went through a spell of liking Blackburn Rovers because they had Alan Shearer and Chris Sutton in attack. And then I started watching Everton properly when I was about 14. My mum wouldn't let me go on my own but my cousin was three years older than me so we'd get the bus, 50p from Kirkby, and then hang around outside until we could sneak in.

"We'd wait until they opened the gates after 75 minutes for the early-leavers to go. There were stewards on the gates and if they were in a good mood they would wink and let us in. One guy, in particular, used to look out for us. But sometimes, if we were unlucky, there would be a jobsworth on the door and we wouldn't get to see anything."

His schoolboy reminiscences, cheering on the team from the Gwladys Street end and tacking posters of Duncan Ferguson to his bedroom walls."

Not that it matters in any way. Even if he was a Liverpool fan, the fact remains he's not a complete tool. He's a good lad, quiet, down to earth. He'd never move to Liverpool from Everton, just as Carragher/Gerrard would never move to Everton.

That post could be used for some sensational popcorn if one was so inclined.

However I can understand the sentiment selling Baines does not appear to be on the the club's agenda.

So don't worry RFUS you'll have plenty of years of following Everton yet. Which is a good thing, No?
