One is an attacking fullback and the other is a defensive fullback. My question is if Baines is so good at attacking why cant he transition into a left midfielder?

I think he is too much of a lightweight to do any harm against the pace/strength of premiership strikers. He has good first touch and over average dribbling skills. We also know the Neville-Jags-Yobo-Lescott defensive formation worked for us last year. I would prefer to see Baines be a left midfielder or a left wingback.

Also has anyone noticed Neville trying to be more joga bonito lately? he did a backheel pass and a couple of step overs in the last 3 games. He also beat 2 defenders on the box in the last 2 games. I think Neville can also attack when ever he feels safe with the ball.

Baines perfect position would be Wing-Back in a 5-3-1/5-4-1, just ahead of the back 3, behind the midfielders....

Stuff wingback, keep him at full back. You don't see the likes of Evra at wing back, nor the Russian left back. Full back is a great attacking position because increasingly modern wide midfielders cut inside, leaving room for full backs to overlap and provide width.

Both of our wide players are liable to cut inside so we need full backs there to bomb on and support. That's why I don't want Lescott at left back as this side of his game isn't natural to him.

Hold on, everyone was singing his praises last year and wanting him to start over at LB over Lescott, potential England call-up etc

He's been injured for nearly a full season and played 3 games on the back of that.

He's a class player on form. And the way our defence is at the moment, I can think of worst players on the pitch for us.
