Putting it out to contest for fans would've been interesting.

I voted #1, and #3 was a none starter, but #2 was, I feel, an attempt to ape Arsenal's style of crest (see below).

If they'd made #2 a bit better I reckon that'd have been a good one, but there was just something about it as it is that seemed "less" than #1.
