City Officials now estimate 100,000 people will have to leave their homes in Calgary tonight. Emergency shelters have been created at the Southland Leisure Centre on Southland Drive, Acaida Rec Centre on 90th Ave and Centre Street Church. Officals say locals should take enough clothes and medicine for a week.

"Arrange for you, your family and your pets to stay with friends or relatives. Evacuees who cannot arrange for alternate accommodation will be provided with food, shelter, bedding and other essential services at one of the evacuation centre."

One of my Supervisors lives just east of Canmore. He is ok, does not know about his house. I work in Denver CO. he said it is crazy right now
 

There is some strange stuff going on lately, i think we are in for a rocky 12/24 months whilst a "electric comet" passes, the comet is call Ison, check it out.

Not sure that comet will have too much of an effect on weather here as it is still the far side of Jupiter, it may become a naked eye object by Nov/Dec. Hubble sightings indicate that it may not live up to the hype being given in the press. There again sun flares are at the largest for a long long time. Even based on the solar cycle some have been enormous of late, a clear night may let us see the northern lights from the UK. That type of activity will have a far greater effect on the weather here that a celestial body still many millions of miles away.

The trouble is for the poor folk having to face the floods no matter what the cause is, the effect is ruining lives and property.
