'Aye Up Cock

Right.

Even though I grew up north ish I never really caught the lingo. And now I'm basically a faux suvorner so I have a question about the phrase 'aye up cock' or 'cocker'.

Where on earth does this derive from?

If I said 'hello cock' down here I'd be punched. And rightly so.

Is it a Lancashire thing? A Yorkshire thing? What??

I could ask my old man, but thought I'd ask the GOT family.

Thanks.

Aye up is Yorkshire. The correct ( Lancy ) pronunciation is Ey up.

Cock is optional and more likely to be Yorkshire.

Ope that's reet.
