It's not a silly comparison in the context of this thread though is it? It's not only relevant, it's the entire crux of the point at hand.

These creative players you're talking about include the likes of Sterling, Sane, and Bernardo Silva who are also young players. The point is, they are top class young players, just like Jesus and we struggle to attract those. It seems perfectly logical to me to say that a £1.5m signing from Sheffield United may not be as good as a £27m signing who was already a full Brazilian international, just like a £5m signing from Malaga would have done extremely well to get anywhere near the output of a £37m German international or a £44m England international.

He wouldn't have played a single game for them mate, so no he wouldn't.
Their most important player apart from De Bruyne (27)by a country mile is David Silva(32), in my opinion they are the two most important players creatively for City, of course Aguero is also experienced.
I think that highlights that you need a balance in terms of what each player brings and also in terms of age.
You could not say he(DCL) wouldn't have played a single game for them as it would depend completely on Guardiola , it is your opinion and that is fair enough.

Yes, surprisingly I am aware that i’m not responsible for picking the Manchester City team but thanks for the reminder. It is of course just an opinion - and a slightly exaggerated one at that - just like the post I was replying to, which you do not appear to have taken the same issue with for some reason.

Not trying to get at you at all and I am sorry if it appeared that way.

It's just that with young players I think the surrounding they find themselves in is very often the determining factor in what kind of a season they are currently having but may be out of kilter with the rest of their career.
I think a pub footballer could be made to look half decent in the City set up and a young Messi might struggle with us just now.

No sorry I was just being facetious. You're right, but the original point I was making still stands.

What I was trying to get at it is that players like Sandro just aren't as good as Sane and Sterling, no matter what team they're in. That's why they cost £35m+ and have been a success, and he cost £5m and hasn't. The same with the comparison between DCL and Jesus, whether we like it or not, the simple truth is that if City decided that DCL was the better player this summer, they'd just buy him off us and we'd have to suck it up. It really is that simple now, see Rooney, Stones, Lukaku etc etc for confirmation. My opinion is that they won't, because he's not.

It's not just about recruitment, it needs to be backed up by the coaching.

The likes of City and the rs have gone to town on that front, bringing in the best in the world for both first team and youth levels. We on the otherhand have Allardyce and his cronies at first team level and a collection of willing but ultimately unremarkable ex players handling the youth set up.

We then get all surprised when their players kick on and ours don't.

I totally agree with you.

BTW City HAVE spent well over half a billion to remedy their situation, they spent over 300 million this year, over 200 million last year and 200mil the year before.

Even with Farhad we will NEVER compete with that.
And they still got smashed by them.If they had played Stones and any more of these"great" kids they've got it could have been 10-1.

It shows most at the back and in midfield. We can't press teams because we lack mobility and athleticism partly due to aging players in key positions.
