that was predicted when they changed viusa criteria a couple of years ago, there is a visa that is for trades that don't have a recognised qual. or someone that has done a trade but not a rec. apprenticeship. Apparently it is one of the 1st visas that gets withdrawn when immigration is assessed.

they have been doing family repatriation visas as well for a while, to reunite families by giving their relatives visas, each of which that applies takes 1 off the visa for a skilled migrant. A lot will have moved over that are over 45 'limit' on general skills, many to retire and with that visa they get around the money needed for a retirement visa.

I heard of people that had got there applications returned after waiting for upto 3 years, because they were in trades that had been taken off the 'list.' Different states offer different options though as some sponsor the visa. My NZ one is worth jack to me really as I cant ever see us going back there, certainly not to go and work in a high security gang ridden prison in the Hutt.

That is true, if your trying to come over without a recognized trade you are going to be wasting your time, but i doubt why anyone would think they would be eligible for recognition when they have nothing to provide.

The situation with NZ'ers I don't think is that bad, your considered a Permanent resident in Aus if your a visa holders there, you can get a normal job without a 457, you can own land and have no time limitations, I work with a serious amount of New Zealanders under an australian workplace.

Apparently there are more Maori's living in Australia than there are in New Zealand, so it wouldn't suprise me at all.

I think its nailed on im going to give it a go now, explain spider situation to me because thats freaking me out!

The main spiders to worry about are Redbacks. I'm **** scared of spiders, but they aren't anything to worry about as long as they are outside the house. It's summer time now, so they come out of hiding in the evening to cool down and I usually see a Redback, Huntsman or Funnel web a couple of times a week. Take into account that I have a shed out back and lots of firewood down the side of the house, so my joint is a breeding ground for them. Other people that I know don't get them at all.

I haven't had a spider come inside the house for years. In summer I just make sure that I keep my shoes inside the house when I take them off, I don't open a window without putting a flyscreen on, I shake the washing when I take it off the line and I spray some surface spider spray near the house to keep them away. In winter they are in hiding, so you don't have to take these steps.

When i'm doing some work around the areas where the big spiders accumulate, I just wear some long gloves and spray the area with surface spray before I start (I also have a shoe ready to splat anything that I see).

I wouldn't freak out about the Spiders mate. You get the odd one here and there. They are just bigger and look scarier, but more often than not they are harmless. I've lived here 20 odd years and it depends on where you live. If you're in bushy surrounds you'll come across alot more stuff, but if you're in suburbia its like anywhere else.

Most common Spiders according to my experience are

St Andrews Cross Spiders

Don't wanna freak the lad out, but someone should post some stuff about Funnelwebs, they're seriously nasty, big too.
Peter Jackson based Shelob on one in Lord Of The Rings

You wont find one unless you go digging around creek beds. We were always looking for them when we were kids.

That's good to know, one of the things that's kept me from travelling over for a holiday to be honest! They must be the evilest looking creatures going, love how they get up on their back legs and make a hissing noise.
NZ's quite lucky that there is nothing too dangerous going around.

I'd rather be facing funnel web than the Haka though mate!

Citizens that is mate, i.e. Passport Holders.

I have a permanent NZ Residents Visa, with an Unlimited Return Resident Visa, but was told that I could only either emigrate or get a 457. Kiwi's that go over now have to get a visa on entry and if the have a record then it is often declined.*

*as seen on 'Border Patrol.'

I met a few that had been on a working holiday on the 'arl British Passport, then returned there on another one in the 'new' red European one. There was no link between passport numbers at all, but then the computers were of the green screen variety back then and took up 1/2 the arrivals with the power of a mobile, if that.

Just got 'Wanted Down Under' on now, the prog shows that in a lot of cases they will be worse off financially than here, and dispels a lot of myths about the place, that come from the fact that when it's good there it's really good. Seems that pay hasn't advanced much since I was there 18 years ago (feck me, it seems like yesterday). Whereas with the gargle at £8 a pint and food expensive I think I would be better off in NZ than there.

I read that construction trades it's a case of 'here in weeks' on the 457 visas due to the work needed. Maybe some can head over and sort Bundy's gaff out and get him back online ?

If anyone can view a list of the priority occupations for the flood recovery, can they post it please as I am curious

I have been recommended to get thte 175 visa, which I do qualify for.

I feel a lot better about the spiders now, I wouldnt be living near the the bush we want to live by the coast.

With regards to living costs, I know its expensive to live there but an electricians base rate over there is triple my pay over here because I live out of the way a bit, the rate for an electrician near me is way off the standard for the UK.
