Attacking Analysis at Birmingham

Give it a go lid, you're quite nice at this when you give it some thought.

I'm not mate, I'm a bit tactially inept. I sort of think I understand it in depth then see the likes of this thread where you with the trained eye spout some really good stuff that I don't really ponder.

I'm Ian Holloway and you're all Wengers.

A good try but you didn't really make comments about Everton or football. If you have another go, you could maybe mention passing triangles and/or hold up play or at least pick a 5 a side team from our current squad.

Its just up the tempo when we need to score. Attacks need to be quicker. If we have a couple of goals lead then by all means play keep ball, slow the pace of the game down, control it. But when we need to score we have to move that ball forward as much as possible without resorting to the kind of clueless hoofball of everton of yesteryear (or the newcastle match).
That's what I meant
The way we move the ball around, with a couple of goals lead and the opposition chasing the game, we'll hand out a few hidings. With more space to move up front we'll score loads. It's just getting that couple of goals in the first place that needs sorting. I'm confident we'll get there though

----------------------YAK---------------------
---------------------CAHILL-------------------
PEANUTS----------ARTETA--------DONOVAN
--------------------FELLAINI------------------
BAINES----HEITINGA----JAGS-----COLEMAN
--------------------HOWARD------------------

Left continues to be strong and create chances, crosses. We have pace and skill down the right (although we are weaker defensively). Arteta playing forward to try some through balls through the middle. Fellaini at the back as a ball winner, defensive mid.

Obviously we don't have Donovan yet (and he may never come) but what do people think?

Its an interesting difference of opinion here. Is that Arteta naturally plays deep or rather that Fellaini has been asked to get stuck in further up the pitch. I know Moyes feels FEllaini has goals in him, so I wouldn't be surprised to know he'd asked him to get further up the field.

I was one of the people who thought Gravesen a very fine player indeed - at least for a couple of seasons (and not including when he came back with the knees of a 90 yr old), and perhaps we haven't got someone like that. If you could cross Gravesen with someone like Cahill you'd have the prototype for what we need in the position.

You've got to admit TxBlue, and I'd value your comments, that from a solely attacking point of view we are fairly one dimensional at the moment.

Superd analysis mate. You've pointed out every single flaws that we have. I'm lazy to multi quote everything you've posted in this thread which I agree wholeheartedly, especially the part about dribbling and counter attack with pace. I'll just add to the Gravesen part. I think we never really replace his direct through ball down the middle ever since he left. Arteta doesn't provide it as much as Gravesen, Hutchison or Barmby does, not even Fellaini, it's not in their favourite list of routine. It's something that can't be taught or train, it's all about instinct and vision. The only player we have who is capable of is sitting on the bench game after game.

maybe we could ask wobbly head for Modric, I reckon he could do it.
