Assassins Creed: Brotherhood

Whoever mentioned Neverwinter Nights, excellent shout, even now one of the best RPG's out there. Superb story.

I don't get Assassins Creed, just freeplay Prince of Persia for me.

I can't speak for everyone, but I love AC for 3 seasons:

1.) The cryptic, unravelling story.
2.) The tight, parkour-esque movement.

but mostly:

3.) The scenery. They painstakingly recreate exquisite, historical cities in each game, and it's just gorgeous to behold and experience.

The general consensus with Prince of Persia is that the best games are from ages ago. Graphics and gameplay have evolved a lot since then, and Creed perhaps is similar to PoP, but 10x better than the current crop of PoP games.

How dare you compare Assassins Creed to Pineapple on Pizza!!!!

I tried with it but I didn't find it that cryptic tbh. The combat system is good, the graphics and recreation of the cities yes are excellent but it is style a lot of style over not that much substance for me. Weird how I adore Arkham Asylum (which admittedly is far more linear) but can't get on with these games at all.

And of course, the original PoP is the best but that is just my age coming through.

By cryptic I meant quite literally, there's lots of codes and secrets to be found which aid the story. In addition, there's a few plot twists -- the first Assassin's Creed has a massive one, and I generally find myself quite absorbed in the story. The quality of the environments certainly aid the immersion, and that no doubt helps me to enjoy the story, too.

It's all opinions really, but I find it odd that you say there's not much substance. The freerunning is excellent, and you say the combat is good, so what's lacking? I suppose you might not enjoy the story, but for someone who does, you must be able to see the appeal?

I play a lot of games, anyway, and there are very few franchises I've enjoyed as much as this one. But as always, to each their own! :)

Dunno, like you say each to their own but I find it all a bit pedestrian at times and if you play it right as opposed to making a nuisance of yourself it's just a little bit dull. I can see the appeal, I just don't think it is as good as the consensus seems to think.

I suppose it's a good time to say I'm not a fan of stealth games at all. I don't really play AC as a stealth game. Okay, I assassinate people when I can and apply some stealth, but obviously as it's not a must you can always just duke it out with swords and what not.

I don't really see how they could improve the franchise too much. The combat is solid (albeit a bit too easy post AC1) the visuals are gorgeous (scenery, not so much textures), the story is engaging (imo), there's a lot of bang for your buck (I've put in about 20 hours into AC1, 25 into AC2 and 25 into Brotherhood, minus MP) and they've ironed most of the bumps from the first game.

I genuinely think it might just be that it's not your cup of tea; perhaps the design choices are not bad, but just not to your liking.

Aye probably, like you say, stealth isn't your thing whereas the Metal Gear Solid series is the sort of game I love.

I've never got into MGS one iota!

And to hammer home the point, the only Splinter Cell game I didn't hate was the latest; Conviction, which I loved. And that's about as Stealthy as Duke Nukem.

Splinter Cell is ****e anyway. Another case of churn to death. MGS at least offers a different experience each time and a deep story.
