Tiny Tim will (maybe) be away from Club duties from mid Dec to Jan due to Asian Cup commitment. I hope Everton does not miss him too much.

I would like Australia to win the Asian Cup to redeem our dismal placing in 2007. But I sure don't want Everton to lose games due to Tim being away. We promise to return him as soon as possible

Thank you, guys.

No more excuses not to go 4-4-2, so often fans who defend moyes and his 4-5-1 point to the effective nature of tim cahill and is inability to play centre mid in a 4-4-2.

Time to give Beckford a run in the team with a partner next to him.

However, I cant help but conclude Mr.Moyes will put Fellaini in cahill's role and continue with the cautious approach.

I think Cahill has to act here. Everton have given him time in the past to play for Australia at inconvenient times for the club. This is not the WC qualifiers. He's a veteran now who's done his bit for his country. Time for TC to step in and say he's not going to the Asian Cup. He needs to pay us back the loyalty and massive contracts we've given him.

I think if you want to play for your nation you should be able to. Whoever wins this gets to go to the Confederations Cup - that's a big deal for the smaller football nations for whom the World Cup is more unattainable. It doesn't matter that it's not the WC qualifiers, it's still a big deal for the region in which Australia is in - the equivalent of the European Cup for that region. No one would prevent a player from going to the European Cup, so let's not prevent the Aussie from doing the same for his big competition. I firmly believe that Nation trumps Club for big competitions (aka not friendys) unless the player decides to refuse himself - it's an honor to play for your country, and most want to do it.

Maybe to some countries it is like that but here, for Premier League teams, Club over country, every single day of the year. Well for a lot of people anyways.

We pay his wages, including when he will be away with Australia. When we signed him Australia were still in the Oceania area so it wasn't an issue for us. We pay the price because a country decides to change federations, when it wasn't even expected? Why should we lose one of our key players at THE most hectic time of the year, where we play some massive games (the derby being one) in a very short space of time - a time when you need to use your whole squad. We've let Tim go whenever he has wanted (including inconvienient times for us), when it didn't suit us. I know he wants to play for Australia but we are his bread and butter, we pay his wages and we gave him his break in the top league.

What if we had an injury crisis then (not impossible with us)? I'd trust him to make the right decision if it got to that point. (Maybe "right decision" isn't the correct term, more a decision that would help the people who pay him.)

The European Championship is different as not many European internationals play outside of Europe and most European seasons run in situ (thus the tournament is out of season).

All in all, I expect him to go though, because we are a club who cares for their players and their feelings.

I agree with Kay20

we sign an australian player, then get the hump when they play in one of their nation competitions.

Accept it and move on.

But we just saw a ton of Premier League players in the England vs France friendly no? Including Jags. Several of the French players were from Arsenal, and several of England's players were also from EPL teams. And that was for a friendly, not even a national competition. Under the Club vs Country philosophy Jags should not have gone. Same goes for Pienaar who just played and captained in the South Africa friendly vs the US.

We're stuck with the system and it's foils. European Cup as the biggest outside of the World Cup gets to take the summer months, everyone else operates around that (except the Gold Cup which is also during the summer, and smack dab annoyingly also during the MLS season). EDIT: It just occurred to me the Asian cup for Australia is their summer too, so summer is king!

But these players didn't miss a game -- never mind 4 or 5.

This isn't the world cup, it's probably the most minor international competition in the history of international competitions.

But they weren't away for a prolonged period and missing games for club by playing.

We may as well hand Liverpool the points now. No one else can get on the scoresheet regularly against them.

when we signed him the ozzies were in oceania not asia and therefore not in the micky mouse poxbottle tosser tournament.
