We have to ensure that we get good money for him and that we sign a suitable replacement.

Aragones knows all about Arteta. Surely everyone remembers him saying this earlier this year?

There seems to be an air of inevitability to Arteta leaving, I think we’ve forgotten who we are. We should keep hold of Arteta and let him know that in no uncertain terms he isn’t leaving if he does put in a transfer request. Players should be held to their contracts and held accountable for their actions. If he was near the end of his contract I’d say fair enough, sell him if an offer came in, but seeing as he is set on a long contract, 4 years isn’t it? Which means we have him until he’s 30ish anyway and theres no way another club can buy him off us unless we want to sell.

We should make a stand with players when they try to leave midway through a contract, and by letting them know that they either play first team football for Everton as a star player or play reserve football then for us then I think most level headed footballer would just get on with their game.

But saying all this, as far as I’m aware this could be mostly paper talk anyway and Arteta has always denied that he wants to leave.
