Arsenal vs Everton

IIRC, Moyes was just about to bring Saha on when the second goal went in, then left it a few minutes, and delayed the sub while Arsenal had loads of corners and kept pressure on.

So, Moyes plan was to move to a 4-4-2 while the score was 1-1.

It's just that the circumstances meant he didn't get to make the change for an extra 10 minutes, and then looked reactionary.

We weren't really expecting to get anything at Arsenal and are not expecting anything against Manu but the fact that we are improving means we should hit the ground running at Bolton. Looking at our next few games after that I should think Wigan away will be our only tough test and we should be comfortably mid-table come the new year (we mustn't expect too much this season). If the takeover materializes hopefully this will be the last season we have to use the first six or seven league games to bed in new players and we can look forward to a good go at top four next season (y)

I thought Hibbert had his best game in an Everton shirt that I've seen personally upto the point when he attempted to throttle Clichy

I thought Howard is looking better, more commanding in the area, Jags as per usual gave everything, Lescott better but not back to last season.

Yet again we lost the first goal to a partial clearance to the edge of the area, the third goal no one picked up Diaby's run (again from just outside the area) and Yakubu lost possession again just outside the area. Common theme - we lose possession, fail to pick up players on the edge of the area when defending set pieces - all things that could be negated through a proper defensive midfielder - Castillo ?.

No point in looking backwards, but we wouldn't have conceded three yesterday with Carsley in the side.

On a sad note, some Everton fans seem hell bent on taking us back to the 80's with violence inside and out of the stadium. Provoked or not, it's not welcome in my book :(

We conceded 4 last season against Arsenal with Carsley in the side.

That was definitely the best performance I've ever seen from Hibbert, although I still saw some moments where he forgot there was a man behind him. But he made some brilliant interceptions, hard challenges and played the ball a bit neater from time to time.

I was most pleased when he went in like a cannon against one of the Arsenal players (cant remember who?) and then grabbed Clichy by the shirt! COME ON HIBS!

Artetas set piece deliveries were way better as well, but he was invisible for the 2nd half.

Howard had a terrific game, unfortunate to concede 3 in the end.

the point of my post was not to sing the praises of Carsley
per se but to highlight how costly the lapses no the edge of the area are Posted via Mobile Device

I have calmed down enough now to be able to post. After watching the MOTD what struck me that once again the weakness of Moyes was shown. Is it just me or are their others who doubt his ability to read a game, decide on what is needed interms of a change of tactics and substitutions?

To play a 4-5-1 with just Yak upfront to me is silly, should have been Anichebe or Vaughan, Saha to take on that role, they certainly seem to much more enthusism and energy.
