Arsenal Reserves

Player Valuation: £70m
After watching Arsenal a couple of times recently I really think three of their reserves could really do a job for us:

1) Diarra- what a player. Strong in the tackle and sensible passer. Not massively tall but an intellegent battler non the less.

2) Diaby- Again strong in the tackle and very good on the ball. Showed his flexibility by playing left midfield against Blackburn. A more imposing figure than Diarra and a good headerer of the ball.

3) Hoyte- A lot of people have said we want the right back equivalent of Baines and in this lad I think you'd have it. Bags of pace, lots of energy a good crosser of the ball and strong in the tackle. He's English and young and would fit into what Moyes is building- a team for teh future.

My vote would be Diarra a French international and more established than the others. All would most definitely add to our squad.

I like these player as well, while Eduardo caught my eyes again I did fancy having him around as well!

I did like to take Diarra off Arsenal but would Wenger let a French player go?

hoyte would be a great signing... but i think i saw him linked with villa for 5-10 million today :(

Wow, Villa are willing to paid up to 10M for him are you serious even 5M is quite alot for a defender who has Premier League experience, for a young defender at that price?

We are being linked with a 26yr old right back named Mendy - never seen or heard of him - I dont know if I'd want a new right back... it might put Neville into midfield

from the beeb... Aston Villa are lining up a £10m double swoop for Barcelona striker Eidur Gudjohnsen and Arsenal defender Justin Hoyte. (Daily Star)

ok.. it was the star! but it does not say how that cake will be cut.

i have no idea what players are worth. i'm sure the papers decide a fee over donuts and coffee.

what I want to see in a right back - beyond the defensive attributes of tackling, positioning and a bit of pace is some culture.

Sometimes what seperates us from the top four, and continental clubs is the inability to distribute from the back and set a tempo.

A good crosser of the ball at RB is all very well, but could easily end up just hoofing it.

Imagine if we had someone like Daniel Alves. Who could pass the ball out of defense, to Ossie and Arteta and Pienaar.

We need a player with the same degree of flair to work in tandem on the wings with Arteta.

Even we want to get into that top four regularly, then we need to be a world class side - which demands something more at right back than the merely quick and agricultural player seen in most of the premiership squads.

Time to cast the net in europe.

The problem is Leon Alves would cost £25m+ Hoyte I reckon is probably around the £4m. I see potential in Hoyte and would much rather see him ply his trade with us than with Villa. A back four of: Hoyte---Yobo---Lescott--Baines.

A good young pacey back four that can actually pass when need to. Lescott isnt a bad passer, Baines certainly isnt and Hoyte has tidy distribution as well. Yobo is the weak link who more often than not will do his weird kicking technique to hoof it miles away from the goal!

Hey, if I was Hoyte and only Everton & Aston Villa are interested in me I know who I did go for, Everton of course!

We are a up and coming team, with tradition, we are doing well in the league and in the Europe, and most certainly be in Europe again next season!

you would hope so. but it will all come down to the wages offered.

villa have very deep pockets these days.

agreed, its why I said someone like Alves (which admittedly is a pretty tall order).
Can't say I've seen enough of Hoyte to judge him, but I think we'll lose a bidding war.

Players that can pass and have technique are ten a penny in some coutnries. If we can instil the work ethic, defensive attributes and tough tackling of the english game in them (much as moyes has done with Arteta) we could have the perfect player.

I agree with the Baines comment though, he has the potential to help us keep the ball with some good distribution.

Yobo's been a rock, but I know what you mean about his passing.

You could say that again, £4M for Hoyte would be bargain his defence is solid, he has pace and his passing skill has been well develop with Arsenal, Hoyte in our defence line up I just couldn't wait to see it, come on Moyes let's go for the lad!
