Them again. After our six goal tonkfest on the opening day of the season were now looking to level things up over two legs with a spanking at the Emirates. Yeah, alright then.
The Carlisle game would have done little to inspire confidence where, despite almost a full first team out, we laboured to a late win. In truth though we probably would have lost that a couple of years ago, and Howard well had it covered when they hit the crossbar etc.
Arsenal rightly have the reputation of being the best footballing side in the country, they play that one touch pass and move stuff that we always seem to struggle against but we're hoping they have one of those afternoons where they seem to be playing one of those training games you used to do in school team training sessions were you were only allowed to shoot from inside the cones, in their case: the six yard box. Anyone remember that smell from your kit bag on the weekends? Or were you a bit of a tramp like me and jumped on the bus back home still in full gear after bad defeats. Anyone play on that sloping pitch at De la Salle too, mad that.
Doing some mandatory thirty second research into the game it looks like both Walcott and Fabregas have an outside chance of making the game after injuries - the latter in particular I'm hoping misses it as on his day he is outstanding, as we seen on the first day. Arsenal fans have always been preferable to their blert neighbours at White Hart Lane, probably because you wouldn't have much ills in the world if Everton played like that and had won things recently, although strangely nothing in the past few years. Wenger you feel always has a team of bright young wonderkids who are only two big signings away from troubling the top place, until they get inevitably get beat away to Bolton in the third week of January.
But we've got results there before doing our typical dogged draw thing that we sometimes pull out of the hat. Will be interesting to see who we put out - COLEMAN - for this one. Yakubu is in Africa for the worst timed tournament in international football and Saha may be injured/agreeing terms with Wenger in the back offices depending on which story to believe. If not then it's fair to suggest Vaughan will start up front and although Cahill's goal may earn him a brief reprieve you feel both him and Bily aren't far away from being dropped for a couple of games now - COLEMAN - we have players coming back. Donovan will be eligible for his first start on the roster and quite where Moyes sees him playing will be interesting. Perhaps this will be the game that Moyes gives the Donegal lad a go at right back.
The following game is against Man City so if we want to brush shoulders with the glitterzzi in 11th place then we need a performance to maintain our recent improvement where we've played nice football but just not scored.
Either way, tough one this.
