Player Valuation: £35m
ive just read this interesting article on keioc site

quote.................. "Everton has made no secret of the fact that they use their asset base to help finance their business. Selling fixed assets, particularly intangibles [players], has proved to be a useful source of additional income which they have exploited to their advantage; but clearly it’s a finite resource and a more sustainable method of financing their footballing activities needs to be secured. Hence the plan for a new stadium and the statement that we are following a facility and fanbase business model; but there would appear to be genuine doubt that a stadium in Kirkby, even at the optimistically projected 94% occupancy, would be able to generate anything like the returns enjoyed by our rivals in the premiership. Until this problem is addressed Evertonians should resign themselves to the fact that current players and up and coming stars will continue to be sold to finance the clubs financial shortcomings."

my question is ... to keep finances and playing staff ticking over , is selling our better players our only 'viable' option under bk and the current board ?

(btw finch farm is not 'our' assett , it was not payed for by us , we got a loan from a company to build it (new blue holdings ?), then sold it back to them and rent it- to my knowledge)

If that is the case, I can see a mass exodus with Moysie being one of the first.
Like Big Burger saaid ...I hope not!

i'm not quite sure what it is we are selling.

if this is in relation to joleon lescott then the fact that city are offering to triple his wage made it impossible for us to keep him.

if, however the banks were putting us under pressure to sell players to stay in business, then yes without a doubt we would be a selling club. however, as that is not the case then i don't think we would be classed as a selling club.

didn't united just sell the world player of the year?*

Well we have to face the fact that as a business we're not generating profit, certainly not on the scale to fund any player purchases given the current valuations floating about.

So if we are to invest in the playing staff it has to come from either the bank or from player sales. We already have a high level of debt and in the current financial climate extending that will prove very hard. Which leaves player sales. Last summer was largely funded by AJ and McFadden, with this summer probably going to be funded by Lescott.

Obviously this isn't ideal but what alternative is there? Very few clubs are self sufficient and those that are have taken a long time to get to that situation. Which leaves us with a sugar daddy.

Difficult to define selling, but in relation to players we're certainly not a 'buying' club.

Only as bad as other clubs.

I do believe Lescott would still be in an Everton shirt if he didnt want to go.

Other players sold (apart from Rooney) seem to be either dead wood or that they wanted to leave.

I can't believe this club is repeating the same mistakes as last pre-season. I would have thought they would have learnt their lesson, as we could have qualified for Champions' League if we had a better start... Which was due to a lack of signings.

Malaga tomorrow and disappointed to think there's no fresh new faces to see in our new strip for the new season + one of our best players could be sold. Where's the ambition to break into the top four?

Peter Johnson (or was it 'Buckley' Finch'?): "Assets?! There's your assets running round out there in blue jerseys".

Thank God we got rid of that lot.
