I can see the negative aspects but they can be managed and are easily outweighed by the positives.

As for Everton, it is one of the better clubs around for developing youngsters and giving them a chance in the first team rather than buying youngsters developed by others. For some of the players just about to make the transition from the youth team, we use the loan system to help their development. If the loan system was gone football overall would be worse off as those type of players would not be given the extra chance to add to their skills in a more competitive league than the youth league.

As for the other way around going on loan to Everton is how some clubs may choose to develop their players, those players are here to learn and are keen to make an effort, but will ultimately return to their club. These are basically ideal as impact players coming on from the bench to help influence matches, we don't want key players to be on loan contracts and thats why we signed Lukaku and Barry on permanent contracts.

Our own youngsters should be prioritized but we won't always have a bench full of promising youngsters in every position.
Basically loans are good as this season has shown you need a huge squad to deal with out of form, tired, and injured players.

About the general debate on the loan system I think the loan system is fine and any issues with unfairness can be adressed more effectively in other ways. A global cap on wages and a limit on the amount of players allowed to be on contract at a club at any time, will end the problem of some clubs stockpiling players and the motivation of money influencing which club players decide to join.

Voted yes but thought I was answering "Are loans OK?" rather than the q on the poll!

Think loans are very useful, means that both you and the player have a chance to see if the club is a right fit without making large commitments. There also might be temporary situations that they can help with, for instance cover of a full time player that is out with a ACL injury or if you think an academy player will develop for the role but is not quite there yet.

Also think it helps with our profile abroad, both with the public and the players, when we make loans like Deulofeu. He clearly enjoyed his time at the club and probably shared that with his Spanish U21 teammates making it more likely they would consider us either for a loan or a permanent move.

The only negative I see is that if the deal works out then younhave raised the price for the club that owns the player but don't think that is a major problem.

Deulofeu was a good example of it working, and he had a good impact. Unfortunately had is the operative term, and this year's young loanee cant hold a candle to him. Glad we got him, loans are great but maybe not the best for consistency. Still, I'd rather have the benefit for one season and not the next, then not at all.

Reality check for you maybe needed here.
No offence.
Loans aren't free. We pay money for a talent for one season. We could invest that money on young talent for ourselves rather than pay to make other people's players better. We shouldn't be looking short term, getting CL or EL for one season does F all in the grand scheme of things. With the new TV money we shouldn't be in the same position of being flat broke every season.

Loans are super great when used correctly, anybody saying otherwise is probably crazy.

Pienaar, Barry, Arteta, Lukaku, Delefeou?

Do you appreciate the possibility of loaning talents to Everton. Some think that we shouldnt develop other teams players.

What do you think, does it bother you*?

Doesn't bother me in the slightest.
If a loan bridges a gap then I'm in favour of them, regardless of whether or not we have an option to buy.

Loans are fine.

In an ideal world Everton would be minted and not have to loan players. But it's not an ideal world.

If a player can improve Everton for a season or whatever then i'm all for it. Arsed if it develops a player for another team? Nope.

Should we not loan our youngsters out? Coleman wouldn't be where he is now without his Blackpool stint of that I am sure.

We'd like all the players to be 'ours' but it's not realistic. Essentially all players are 'on loan'. Just with longer contracts and we might get a fee for people.

Sad fact is will need the loan market to bolster our paper thin ranks. Disappointed with Atsu as a loanee so far but this has been a difficult year in so many ways. If Distin leaves perhaps a loan could see us through until summer.

Unfortunately, when all the money clubs seem intent on stockpiling players, it has become a staple of modern football.

*answered yes to are loans ok, not the question 'negative...' bit confusing.

I think the way that loans are used has changed in the last 10 years and it will probably change even more in the future because of FFP.

Years ago clubs only really loaned out young players to lower league teams, so they could get first team experience. Now clubs loan players between top league teams, sometimes it is still for development, sometimes it is to put the player in the shop window, so they can maintain their value. Sometimes it is to get a player out the door and off the wage bill when a suitable buyer cannot be found.

Ideally I would only like us to loan players, with a future transfer agreed, but I can imagine that this would mean that we may not get access to some fantastic players. At the time I dont think we would have got Deulofeu on loan with a future transfer agreed.

You can see the loan system as a high risk strategy, last year we had Barry, Lukaku and Deulofeu all on loan, feasibly Barry could have gone to Arsenal in the summer and Lukaku could have gone back to Chelsea and we would have been back to square one, needing 3 players to fill those positions.

But is that really more high risk than;

A) signing none of them on loan and using the youth team
B) Borrowing large sums of money to buy them outright
