Are European refs pro Barcelona

That "penalty" on Suarez was pretty scandalous. Only reason they even had a chance at the end.

But Trapp doesn't look like he's very good. At least for their level.

He might be a big racist cheese grater face, and you'd feel safer stood next to a wood chipper than hang your fingers near his face, but when people say his name's not Luis Suarez, Santa Luisa, I gets angry and prints T-Shirts and if King Kenny doesn't wear one then he's not feeling this football club anymore - I wore full kit to work today so they all better do their bit

My father in law just asked an interesting question tbh. When was the last time either R Madrid or Barça had a penalty given against them in a European match?

I remember Chelsea stuffing Barca on the night at Stamford Bridge once. It went extra time and I think was 5-3 to Chelsea after 120 mins. Was one a penalty? I think one was a penalty but you're right, thats a great question...Can't remember it, especially at Bernabeu / Nou Camp.

He above was when Eidur Gudjonnsen ram amok, and Barca tried to sign him afterwards.

Speaking of refs, Barca and Chelsea... So on topic...I remember how angry the Chelsea players were and I had to agree with them. I think Barca get a referee to feel privileged and it's 'an honour' to ref them, plus a worldwide audience of Chinese people and Indonesian insomniacs, New Jersey plane spotters....and there begins the problem - refs wanna be on the TV nowadays, and good luck to them but what about Neymar having two goals at the end of that game? Utter shambles.
I do remember when the final was set to Man Utd vs Chelsea for the second season running, and Chelsea had about 3 pens waved away.
05 onward was an English team every year I think.
Arsenal got robbed in 06 with the keeper sent off, Sol Campbell scoring, then Wenger settling for third at half time. Bless him.

sorry Jim. thats a good example of what I am talking about in some other posts in this thread.

the first leg against Chelsea there should have been a clear penalty for Barça which wouldve made a difference to the second leg. A far clearer shout than the majority of the 4 or 5 chelsea were claiming. Not given.

Arsenal 06, keeper correctly sent off even if it was a bit of a balls having a final possibly ruined so early.

Sorry but I hear/read all this stuff all the time. Its an awful waste of energy. Everybody just shouting fix and nobody has much to say beyond that.

I was absolutely gutted when Barça failed to get past Mourinhos Inter in the semi and have a chance to win two in a row. They seemed to have a clear penalty shout turned away in the first leg and a disallowed goal at the end of the second leg that wouldve put them through and I think shouldve stood. Was it a fix to stop two in a row?? No, for me just a ref getting things wrong as refs do in all sorts of games at all levels. just simple human error.

No mate, it was clearly UEFA favouritism that allowed Barça put 6 in the back of their net

honestly i cant say there is no corruption with refs at the highest level. I can only hope not until proven otherwise. Always felt like if it came out matches are regularly fixed across the big leagues and tournaments in some way, like some of the calciopoli scandal that would be it with me for the sport at the top level everton and all. what would be the point.

rants about cheating only really say you are not happy with the result and dont like the team that got the decision in their favour. if you really 100% believe these matches are being fixed, i dont understand why you would keep watching.

although maybe they are all wrestling fans so they are used to it!

That Chelsea/Barcelona game was incredible though. It was either corruption or unbelievable incompetence. Probably the latter, but it does make you think.

There's simply too many examples of dodgy referee performances to dismiss it in my view. Nobody will ever convince me that Clattenburg and Collina against us did it through incompetence, because I have a set of eyes and a functioning brain.

Oh, for sure. It's the idea that there was foul play in this scenario. There was one dive, but the referee couldn't possibly account for the other 5 goals Barça scored. PSG were awful

I watched it from above in the stand...pretty much straight on and I thought penalty....the ref is seeing it from behind and would baaically must just see what looks like the defender colliding with Suarez and nowhere near the ball....the other official and linesman would have been on the wrong side to see that the raised arm doesnt touch him. Theres one angle in the array of angles they have to show it, and unfortunately for PSG theres no official viewing it from that side. They were conned, thats all and until people do more than finger point at other players/clubs that side of the game wont change.

I have seen the penalty shouts numerous times. I'd say Piques handball is the most blatant, but I don't think any other are clearcut at all. Its just that its rare to see so many shouts in one game. The Abidal sending off was completely wrong for me, but that doesnt fit the corrupt narrative...just fits the less interesting incompetent or poor game from the ref narrative.

When I watch an incident I always try to look at what the ref might see in that instance, and only when it appears they are looking right at it do I question what they hell they are doing. If i remember right Collina couldnt have had a clearer view of Ferguson being fouled as he scored. An awful call.

All I can say is that foreign refs are even worse than ours.

Eventually the game will be controlled by robots programmed with the rules of the game and empowered to inflict summary physical punishment on players who transgress e.g. Suarez or his future equivalent.

Remember that game Barça won 2-1 at home. Chelsea stormed into a 3-0 lead in the 2nd leg. Barça pulled it back to 3-2 and Terry scored as late winner.

Looking back with a more rational and delayed analysis, it becomes clear that this was one of the most dubious games I've ever seen, perhaps even exceeding the Clattenberg derby. The mixture of cheating, refereeing decisions, cynicism - and luck - is just incredible. In order:

- Mascherano hand ball (and resultant PSG penalty) not given. NEVER DELIBERATE
- Second goal is an unfortunate own goal. [Poor language removed] HAPPENS
- Penalty for third goal is very debatable. The PSG player slips and never even looks at Neymar (who chooses to fall over him). NAILED ON PEN. JUST BECAUSE HE SLIPS DOESNT MEAN IT WAS A PEN.
- PSG hit the post with a sitter before finally scoring. PSG FAULT
- Neymar (x2) and Suarez both dive to try to win penalties, with the latter deservedly getting booked
- Neymar petulantly kicks out at a PSG player. Potential red card not given. MISSED THAT.
- Mascherano cynically takes out Di Maria's leg when about to shoot clean through. Blatant red card and PSG penalty not given. THAT WASNT A PEN, WATCHED IT AGAIN AND DI MARIA CATCHES HIS OWN FEET.
- Suarez clearly dives for the second penalty. In theory, he should be sent off for a second yellow. YES BAD DIVE.

In total, that is 3 potential red cards and 2 penalties against not given, as well as receiving 2 dodgy penalties themselves. Tranmere could beat PSG with that much help.

People are going way way over the top with this ref thing
