Anyone else miss playing in Europe?

I certainly miss Europe.

Football for me is about so much more than what actually happens on the pitch for ninety minutes, which is just as well given the shenanigans at this club for the past twenty five years :(, and despite the shambles that was the match itself I had an absolute ball in Lyon with the travellin’ Blues last year.

I wish I was planning a European road trip this year.

definitely this, love going the aways/Europe just to get away as much as the footy itself

Yeah. I loved having two games a week to watch. It’s nice having something to look forward to of a week night.

The competition needs restructuring badly though as there’s far too many games.

Rather not, 7th place and you start in the qualifying rounds, meaning your season starts in July.
Then travelling to second rate teams, who have Sunday league stadium facilities playing against players you have never heard of.

If you went straight into the group stages then ok, but qualifiers no chance

It'd be better if it was the old UEFA Cup format of 2 leg knock out rounds. Builds up the excitement as you go along (if you stay in) rather than being strung along for 4 months watching 6 group games of mediocrity!

I only want us to be in it if we’re actually any good, last season was a disgrace. Barely beat Rozumberok or whatever they were called ffs.

I like is when we’ve prepared properly for European competition and actually play to our potential. Too many times though we’ve been in ridiculous situations of playing kids away at Benfica, about to fire a manager and drawing to some Cypriot amateurs, on the comedown from losing to Villarreal. These have inevitably resulted in battering which just give everyone else an excuse to have a laugh at us. Saying that though our European pedigree has been better in recent seasons than anyone outside the top 6 (apart from that CL run by Leicester) so it’s not as though we’re a complete anomaly.

Let's get ourselves good enough to be in Europe first shall we!

At the moment we are not good enough and don't have the strength in depth that is necessary to support a European campaign.

But yes, I do miss it.

Thing is you can go on a road trip to Europe anytime, you dont need the football as an excuse to do that, and also hotels and flights are a fraction of the price when there is no game on. I would happily go to Lyon, Nuremberg...etc in my own time an not have Evertons season ruined

Back in Europe next season.

The project started with a blank canvass in August. Qualifying for the Europa at the end of the first season would be a success.

I like combining watching the blues in a competitive match whilst travelling to cities I've never been to before with other blues. Doubt I'd make the effort to go some of the places we went to without European football.

Like he said, football is more than just the match, even the home games are a chance to get on the ale with your mates and have a day out. In another city is a bonus.

You are such a grump at times, Carlin :(

Of course I can go on a road trip any old time.....I am in Portugal on vacation as I type this.

It is being on an Everton road trip I am yearning for right now.

And as for a European campaign not being good because it risks having “Everton’s season ruined”.....the logical extension of that argument is that you don’t want to win a Cup and finish outside the top seven this season.

Seriously?

Is that what you want?

I very much doubt that

Just go with the flow and let what happens happen.

Europa League qualification should be seen as a major success.

Will mean finishing 6th or 7th in the league (if the Top 6 win the domestic cups again) or winning a cup for the 1st time in over 20 years.

Both should, and would, be viewed as massive successes. Add into the fact that this is a year to be laying foundations and finding out who in the squad is up to fulfilling the manager's tactics plans then you'd have to say it'd be an outstanding achievement. 7th maybe less so but that may not give Europa League qualification anyway
