Any poker players on here, online or live ?

Are you any good (am sure everyone is the next Phil Ivey) and do you take the game seriously or is it just something to throw money at and have a gamble when you have had a few pints ?

I used to play in a regular game at a buddy's house. $40 buy in with one rebuy allowed. Mostly Texas hold 'em. Sometimes we'd switch it up and play Omaha hi-low. I struggled with the latter.

I usually came out ahead.

Played hold 'em in a casino in Vegas and it was not fun at all. Zero strategy...just super aggressive 'all in' bets after the flop.

Like to give it a go but playing online just seems crushingly boring? Seems like it's something you need to do face to face with friends, as the challenge and complexity all comes from the betting and psychology. The actual mechanics of the card game are trivial, so you wouldn't really just play the cards for fun.

Yeah never done online. For me it's a face to face game. Reading your opponents. Rope a doping your opponent through weak bets to get them to overcommit and stuff.

I play weekly in a pub league, and every 5/6 weeks with some mates from work. Check out Red Tooth poker. They have leagues all over the place, and you can win a trip to Vegas and the end of it. I'm ok. There's some pretty good players in my league, and we regularly get 30+ players where I play. Fingers crossed I should be in the play-off for Regionals this season

Keeping my cards close to my chest on this one.

Like playing the game - its probably my favourite card game. Trouble is I don't gamble.

But a fiver's worth of loose change can make for an entertaining and surprisingly intense evening with friends.
