2022/23 Anthony Gordon

I never want to lose our own youth players that have talent and potential. However if this is the only way we can finance 2 or 3 new attacking players then we have to do it. Currently this feels like it could become a repeat of last season's horror show.

I feel we'll get £45m + add-ons to £50-55m, if a deal is done, and that a large proportion of that money will be in the initial downpayment (like £20m).

If Gordon really isn't wanting to sign a new deal then I think the club will accept it.

Like you say though if they don't hit the figure we want then we don't sell. We have targets we can get without selling him, but I can safely bet that the targets we'd be able to move for if we had that extra financial power would be a far sight better.
Like is this really true though? I'm very sceptical on that because he is under contract to 2025. We don't desperately need an extension right now. It felt like old school everton reporting to make the player look bad

But we very much have a footballing reason to sell as the lad offers very little on the pitch and I very much doubt he will add that to his game at a Everton or anywhere else for that matter. The money can be used to get in two or more attacking players that are more prolific, which we are desperate for.
I'm not sure where you get the 'offers very little' bit.

Everton have a valuation and will stick to it. It's called negotiating.

Wolves rejected £35m from Forest for Gibbs White.

Leicester wanting £80m+ for Fofana.

It's a mad market - we need to be looking for a fair bit more than £40m for Gordon.
Which we are doing. It's just some of our fans get panicky for some reason when the club has a high value on players.

If Chelsea walk away, so be it. If they don't then we'll get a very good deal for the lad.

Yeah I don't know if him not accepting the deal is true but they were definitely going to offer him a new contract this summer mate

You have to remember he signed that deal in September 2020. He's become a regular and key first-team player since then.

Selling Gordon and throwing the whole fee at MGW is the sort of thing I can see us doing.

Doesn't matter if we did though as MGW's fee would be spread over likely 5 years so say we signed him for £40 millions thats £8 million on this years accounts whilst say we get £50 millions for Gordon thats still £42 million book profit for this years accounts.

Can a player not be given a pay rise without an extension? Like it happens in every other walk of life.

Whether we offer him increased terms, an extension etc or not, he's still under contract for 3 seasons so an extension is not absolutely essential.

I find it bizarre that people think the club would feel they need to spin accepting a £50m+ bid for him. Or that they should need to.

Yeah that second tweet from Myers is probably the most important from any account in the last few days. Scripted that.

Straight out of Blood Brothers

Of course mate. All too predictable.

I’ll gladly admit I’m wrong , I can’t help but think this , once again, is already a deal set to close and all this talk is PR by media who were briefed .

Remember “£50m” for Rooney?

The leaked emails before Arteta left “everyone here knows a player has to leave”.

Maybe Gordon does want to go I don’t know but given the circumstances, the incomings and lack of attacking purchases it reeks of just taking its course to me.
