Any anglers on this forum recommend a monthly fishing magazine? might buy a 12 month subscription for the fisherman in my family this year.
Also, Ipod docking stations, which one is best?

I am as I will fish the Leeds Liverpool canal from time to time and I was when fishing boat and shore for England but what type of fishing do you do, game, fresh, course, or sea (shore and boat)?

Course fishing, sorry. Lakes, pits and canals. He likes carp fishing. Just after something he will appreciate and know I thought about before getting him. Thought process over to you.

'Improve your Course Fishing' is generally regarded as one of the better monthlys.

It's not as 'beginnerish' as it sounds. Stuff for everyone.

You could get him John Wilson DVD's and books or anything by Bob Nudd............ If he is learning about fishing make sure he gets the basics right, including how to correctly handle fish and never leave a pile of crap behind after fishing, take it all home especially discarded line. If he is fishing rod and reel then go for Wilson's stuff, if he's fishing pole Nudd is unbeatable, former world champ.

Depending on his age he may need a rod license. If he is very dedicated then sign him into a club, they'll train him up making sure he'll progress properly

Thanks for taking me seriously, I was expecting all sorts. He taught me to fish so he knows the ropes from his dad. I have a load of Wilson stuff already, but he likes to pole fish (£4k) so Nudd might be the way. Cheers Monts.

Actually Bob the old car boots can't be beaten, cheapest gear around.................bait from a lad on Kirkby market and you're off.............great way of spending a day no matter what the weather is like (y)

I got pissed with young Ashurst going to Ireland many years ago, his dad was a better angler though Robert... We went to a reception in Lisdoonvarna kevins chat up line on the dance floor was straight to the point..............do you shag and am I on.....basic or what and no he never got his landing tackle out :lol:

Monty did not know you knew them. Remember old Benny very well.

Used to do the matches down there, drawing at the Running Horses. best I ever did for a day match was a 2nd one time and I did win an evening match once.

I used to go on forums with the Irish Tourist Board, I was a founder member of SAMF with Alan Yates.......I chaired the NWASAC and fishied boat and shore for England. I fish the canal along the Jacksons Bridge to Eager Lane stretch when I can, Polly used to sit between my legs constantly watching the float god bless her.......I'll miss that little animal like mad..........people will be asking what happened to her....[Poor language removed]
