I hope it continues. Told you we are easy to win over, a bit of hard work and Evertonians are half way to loving you.

As it should be, football fans are very quick to jump on laziness and abuse that player and so it should be the other way around.

Every football fan, regardless of who you support, should be appreciative of of high work rate. As you said, it is only half the battle though. To get love there has to be some end product as well, otherwise it will simply stay at a like/respect stage of support.

Seamus is happier!

Andros protects our right more than he attacks their left.

Maybe harsh, but its an easy start to the season, more is going to be needed and expected in this league.

Just shows you what a farce our wide options had become since Martinez’s first season. Townsend works both ways, puts a bit of effort in, and can cross a decent ball, and we’ve not seen anything like it for about ten years. Ridiculous really. Who knew that playing an actual winger over slow lazy crabs on the wing night actually be a good idea.

Kone, Cleverley Barkley Naismith Etoo Enner Valencia Sandro Siggurdson Bernard Davies James Gomes have all played wide positions for us since we last had a decent pairing in Mirallas and Deulofeu. There’s just no need for it. A succession of managers just refusing to let the handbrake off and play two out and out wide players. Benitez has moved to it straight away and lo and behold we look more attacking than we have done since Martinez’s first season.

Just not overly enthused or easily pleased by an experienced 30 year but who predominantly relies on pace for their game, we've had a few recently, think Walcott Lennon. They scream injuries at you, well at me anyway.

He's a squad filler and seems to have the sort of attitude we need in the dressing room, so far he looks like a shrewd bit of business as does Gray. It's early days but the signs are more positive than I expected and have to fully accept that for the foreseeable we are playing for sixth, sad but true.

Most fans demand effort even if we should really take it for granted. We don't because there are plenty who don't put the graft in. Townsend looks like a grafter and he'll have our respect for that. Whether he has the class is another thing. But he'll be given the chance to show us that he has because he's earning the right to show us.
