First I've heard mate? Last I saw anything about him was when he was linked with the Leicester job before Ranieri got it.

I imagine Mahrez is still kicking himself after missing out on the chance to learn directly of the great man.

Andrei was a special talent, no doubt about. For about 18 months with us, he was unstoppable. However maybe I might be wrong but if you had the choice between Andrei or Trevor Steven in his prime who would you pick. Steven was class personified, he just glided over the turf, could beat a man for fun and could finish also. He also played centrally for us on a few occasions and his vision to pick a pass was there for all to see. One of the most underated players ever to play for the club and IMO never got the credit he deserved in the glorious team of mid 80s. For me I'd have steven over Andrei, what do others think?

Me too mate,what a supremely balanced footballer Trevor was for us,although I always thought his wings were clipped a little when he came back from England duty under the tutelage of dour,boring Don Howe!

I agree, but Trevor didn't have his wings clipped too much. As you can tell from my previous post he was my favourite player from that mid 80s side. Just reading Howard kendall's book (great read by the way) he tells of high much he regarded Steven's ability. A sad day when 'tricky' left us even more galling is the fact we only got 1.5m for him. I've disliked rangers ever since!!!

Waddle went for £4.5 million to Marseille if my memory is right,he was never in Tricky's stratosphere in my eyes!!

London press for you again. Waddle played for spurs, had long hair and made rubbish records with hoddle. On his day he was a very talented player, I'd probably liken him to a modern day Countinho. Could always be made to look good in games, but would often go missing in games. On the other hand, Steven was an 8/10 every week. Consistently produced fine performances. Due to injuries during the title success of 87 proved his versatility by playing centrally and even got a hat trick playing up front once. Due to spurs getting 4.5m for waddle we requested 5m for Steven. Who at the time had more England appearences and goals for everton. And we ended up with 1.5m, still flabbergasted to this day at that decision.

 

[The Equaliser]

A beacon of light in a dark decade. 15 goals from midfield in a season is a sign of unarguable class. I went to most of our home games in 95/96 and really enjoyed his performances.

However, like many other of our better players of that era, Gary Speed for example, he saw the direction the club was going under it's then ownership and wanted out. What a shame.
