I think some of the criticism of Gomes is a bit harsh, his passing was definitely below par, but his positional work was top class, he did a lot of work to cover Digne and to reduce the impact of Henderson through the midfield.

This is why we’ve got Iceland, Bernard, Iwobi etc on the bench. If he’s not playing well, rotate him out.
For me, he has to be dropped for a few games.

His passing was a concern as this really all he brings to the team. Doesn't score or assist and must be the worst tackler I have ever seen as every challenge is a foul. We deffo need a ball carrier to have a complete midfield.

I see a lot of requests to drop him and i understand, but who on the squad does his role better. Siggy is a player more suited for an attacking role than a CM role.
He has also been good on most matches. I say we stick with him until we find a better option or maybe he grows into his role.

Wouldn't mind Delph coming in and Doucoure given more licence to burst forward as he is capable of getting 5 goals+ a season from midfield.
Gomes isn't any better than Sigurdsson at the moment in all honesty and im not a Siggurdsson fan by any stretch.

With Gomes it may be that he's suffering by comparison, James, Allan and Doucoure are all doing so well that the shine if off him - I sincerely hope that as others have said that he grows into the new shape. For this game I'd bring in Iwobi for Richie and give Gomes another go.

Gomes was a passenger for 65/70 mins and he was heading for a red card.Cmon lads, we're having a great start to season, let's try not to crap on our players when we are actually doing well... apart from Pickford, he's fair game at this point

We had Doucoure in the midfield and he was fairly anonymous. It's not like anyone in the midfield had a great game.

Neither Reid nor Bracewell scored that number of goals in a season. As long as he's contributing well to the team and enabling others to be a goal threat there's no problem. Not saying it wouldn't be better if he was chipping in more with goals and assists but I'm more concerned about his general play.

His forward passing hasn’t been good enough as of yet, and I think James is shouldering far too much of the creative burden because of it. Either Bernard or Iwobi in that central position would create a lot more. Even Sigurdsson would probably be an improvement, he does have a bit of magic in the boots.

My choice would be Sigurdsson since Iwobi probably has the spot on the left locked up while Richarlison is out. Bernard in the middle against PL midfields scares me too much to try it. If Iwobi does well on the left maybe think about moving him central.
The one thing that is wild about this situation is those three options might all be defensive liabilities and I still think they'd be a step up from what Gomes offers. So if they can give us more going forward it is worth doing.
