He'll have a good season, I'm convinced. I've watched the highlights a couple of times and he was fine,neat and tidy if not spectacular. Only a year since his injury as well, he's still in recovery from a playing perspective.

What a ridiculous thing to say. At the very worst he’s our third best central midfielder. At worst. With decent players around him and an actual partnership in midfield he’ll thrive, also means it’s not all upto him to do everything anymore. There’s literally 3 or 4 other CMs at the club who are significantly worse than him.

Hopeful that once Gbamin is back he and Gomes can both fight Allan and Doucoure for places in the team. Competition for places in the squad is always great and it’ll keep us far away from a midfield partnership of the quality of Davies and Sigurdsson for a long time to come.

How can you call a player who has been awful...not average, awful for 4 or 5 games every 6 our 3rd best midfielder 'at the very worst'.

His role as deeplying play maker / water carrier is even more important now that he has someone to carry the water to.

Instead of looking up and having no options, he now has; James waiting to playamake, Richie in space (not double marked), The Duke making runs, Dom as an outball and Allan to play 1-2s with. He'll also have more space to drive forward himself once his mojo is tuned back up to 11.

If you’d have said to me a year ago that andre gomes would be playing in the same team as Allan and James Rodriguez- id have booked you in at the looney bin.

adding doucoure to that and it means our midfield is pretty well balanced.

gomes will be fine once he shakes the rust off

I WANT him to come good now he has better players around him, but I can't shake the feeling that the largely awful player we've seen regularly over the last couple of seasons is the real Andre.

I think if James is doing most of the forward passing, Doucoure most of the harassing and carrying and Allan most of the breaking up you have to ask what exactly Gomes is bringing. I think he was an option and supported them well, but it might be possible to drop him and bring in another forward with James becoming a the third center mid. If James stays on the right we are going to need him nearer the box more often so someone has to pick up the forward passing he did when dropping deeper.

how About linking those three? I see Gomes as the man who knits the midfield together. he is an outlet for the defence and if Allan, Dacourre can carry the ball forward, the can give it to Andre to spray a pass out to the forwards. I see absolutely no reason why he wouldn’t be a perfect lynch pin for the others. I recall speaking to a divvy Cockney years ago who said he thought our mid 80’s midfield was great, but he could never understand why Kendall didn’t get a better player to replace Bracewell? A good team is a jigsaw puzzle and i Feel Andre will now slot in perfectly. If he doesn’t, I am confident Brands and Ancellotti will bin him!

I agree with everything in your post and don't think it necessarily contradicts my thoughts on Gomes!

Class act, but needs great players around him and he has that now. Back end of last season was a nothing set of games and he was just getting fit again anyway. He knits the whole thing together and it goes unseen mostly but had a great game on Sunday.

Performed better playing higher up the pitch. A better season beckons
