Player Valuation: £5m
A good "side" discussion about American players and Everton got started in the Tim Ream thread (http://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/threads/36356-Tim-Ream). We got the thread back on topic, but I think it was a discussion that warranted it's own thread.

Here are a few of the main points:

This is a good opportunity to point out the respective abilities of my countries players vis-a-viz Everton's. If you combined the two squads, and put out a first team, the only Americans that even get considered are LD and Dempsey (and of course Tim H, who plays for both). I don't think another American even makes the bench (maybe Bradley?). This is not a knock on my country, just a statement as to how strong a top half Prem side really is.

By comparison, Tim Ream is not in the starting line up for the USA at Gold Cup, a tourney which we are going all out to win.

Stu Holden? Easily makes the bench if not the starting XI

I loved Bradley from what i saw of him at the world cup.
Jozy Altidore would also be a solid punt, i know we like our strikers athletic, like.

Keeping my europeanness in mind, i always disliked the notion of american soccer, but it's grown on me. Quality improving drastically. Lots of young talent being brought up, LD is the first of these. I'm thinking we're gonna see a lot more, and in the end taking a punt at one of these kids, never mind what we think of them now, would be worth it. You know how you improve by playing with people better than you? How one has to learn the trade and settle in? Yeah. That should be just about enough for any american prospect. And i don't mean Cody Arnoux or whatever. I'm all for american class really, though i strongly dislike the U S A! chants when Howard plays well :D

Who doesn't make the bench to make room for Cherundolo? In this combined squad, you have room for 16 outfield players. Of those, Jags, Baines, Distin, Neville, Arteta, Coleman, Fells, Rodwell, Saha, Beckford, Cahill, Osman, Heits, LD, Dempsey, Holden are all no brainers over Cherundelo, and that is your 16. And I haven't even gotten to a ton of other guys.

Something tells me there is more discussion to have here, but it is only fair to move it to it's own thread. If you could combine Everton and US Men's National Team, what US players would make the Everton team (and if you'd like, which Toffee's may lose their spots).

And to EFC NY - regarding Cherundolo, the discussion was more about which americans had the class to play for EFC or even a top half EPL team.

The question really should be "Who would I put at RB?"
There are only 4 choices, Neville, Cherundolo, Hibbert or Coleman. I think Cherundolo is the best RB of those 4, so I would sit Neville for Cherundolo and keep Coleman at RM. Sadly Hibbo wouldn't dress (unless there were injuries or big dips in form).

Honestly, I really like Cherundolo and I think he is the most underrated player on the USMNT. He is captain of Hannover in Germany, he gets up the wings and plays some lethal crosses. A partnership of he and Coleman would be very dangerous. Cherundolo is only 2 years younger than Nev, so that is the only drawback to him. (All hypothetical though, not trying to start a transfer rumor.)

Landon Donovan, Stu Holden and that Tim Harold or whatever his name is. He's quite good in goal.

No one else. Dempsey is overrated and certainly no better than Cahill. I'd take Michael Bradley for the bench, but I think only the above 3 could push for the starting 11.

I rate Holden and Dempsey (very underatted IMO) highly. Donovan is a good player pity he isnt 24, Brad Friedal is a boss goalie too.

Brian McBride was mundo boss as well.

I love Friedal, but he's a bit old now.

Dempsey is good, but hardly underrated. He's one of the media's token non-top 6, fap-fest icons. Along with Charlie Adam and Scott Parker.

America have produced some good keepers over the year - without naming names of course!

I always thought Dempsey didnt get the credit he deserves - but dont really read the red tops, i generally clean on him in FPL when you stick him in from Jan onwards tends to slip under the radar.

Sturat Holden i think is an awsome player i wouldnt mind seeing him here.

America do have a fantastic record with keepers.

And Holden, yes. He's quality, and he's only going to get better.

I rate Dempsey very high, and he still has some good years left. Ironically, in a lot of ways, he is similar to Cahill, in that both have a good goal scoring touch, and both score goals at a rate higher than their games indicate they should, meaning that both are rather flawed players considering how prolific they score, which ultimately is what matters. Also, neither is a striker in the traditional sense. Cahill obviously is better in the air, although Dempsey is no slouch in that area.

Cherundolo is the Captain and RB for Hannover 96 in the Bundesliga. He would do well in the EPL. Hannover 96 had their best season yet? 4th place finish.

Cherundolo would start for just about every Premier Team at RB. He just doesn't get the press that other players do. Understated and efficient. Rarely makes a mistake.

I do like Cherundolo to be fair. He's always looked good when I've seen him.

I'm dead set on Coleman being our RB for the long haul however, so I'd say no to Steve. Who is also considerably older.

Oh I'm not saying that we should get him. He's been in Hannover forever and is their captain. I think his nickname is "The Mayor." Don't know where I heard that and I could be talking ****e but I thought I did.

He'll finish his career in Germany I would imagine.

He had the chance in like '05 or '06 to come to the EPL. He turned it down and signed a long contract with Hannover if I got my **** together.
