Been using Amazon on and off for years now. Never really has an issue.
Until Monday.

I checked my emails Monday morning and got an Amazon notification regarding I had changed my log in details.
Sure enough when I tried, my log in no longer worked.

I phoned customer serives after searching for 5 mins to try and find a help line number which didn't involve having to log in first!
Then the pain began.

They asked for my emaill address. I told them. They said it no longer existed on the system.
Negative faeces Sherlock. This is why I am phoning.

I passed security questions and they brought my account up. They said you changed your details on Monday.
I said no I didn't. This is why I am phoning. I have been hacked.
I asked if any transactions had taken place since the hacking. She didnt want to tell me initially and I had to push for an answer!
Nothing had gone missing.
I asked if they could suspend the account. She said it has to go to fraud investigation and they will contact me within 24 hours.
I said what if the hacker is using the account right now? Oh, they will deal with it.
I advised that I needed to end the phone call as I need to call the bank and cancel my cards.
I wouldn't be able to access my account until fraud dept had dealt with it.
I told her that in this day and age, the delay is a joke. That Amazon have no regard for customers money and the inconvenience.
Called the bank, they cancelled my debit card straight away and I have to wait for replacement.

Tuesday.
I received an email from amazon fraud team saying I must have been hacked, no issues their end.
I havent used the account for 6 months by the way, so I must have been hacked last year and the hacker waiting for his/her moment!
The fraud team said they had removed and reset all information and I should not have any more issues. Need a new password. That was it.

Wednesday.
My account was used to do 21 product reviews!

Thursday(this morning)
I rang customer services and explained what had happened and could they simply close my account and would open a new one when I received my new bank card.
They refused and said they needed my card details. I told her I do not trust amazon to protect my details and asked for a manager, or anybody who would close the account.

After 5 mins on hold a chap spoke to me. I said please close my account. He said no, I need some bank card details. I said I am the customer. You have failed to deal with the hacker. My account is not secure. Please close it. I am not interested in duiscussing any further.
He put the phone down on me!

I can not find any complaints email for escalation other than going back through the original customer 'lack of' services number.

How the heck do you file a complaint against Amazon?

Have you seen the 'The Man Who Haunted Himself'? Might be useful in this case. :)

Doesn't surprise me that Amazon are being a massive pain about it. As long as you have cancelled your cards I wouldn't worry too much but make sure you have sent them some written correspondence backing up your claim that you have asked them to close the account on several occasions. That way if someone does try to take a loan out in your name etc. you have something to go back on to start pursuing them for any damages.

Businesses don't get to be enormous household names by being fair and honourable, or by providing good service.

They do it by supplying jarg goods at a few quid lower than everybody else for a period, funded by slave labour in the supply chain, before rising prices quietly so people don't realise they're actually more expensive. An added bonus is that you drive competitors on the high street out of business, and once that's achieved you're too big for governments to touch you, you swerve paying tax and you charge what you like.

Haven't used amazon in over two years.

Not directly related but I got a charge and refund this week from GoDaddy.com

Never signed up with them never mind paid them

Amazon has one of the best customer service teams you're likely to find, so I do think a large chunk of your story is fabricated.

Fair do's
Seems a bit odd to basically call someone a liar just because of your personal experience.
I just find it slightly unbelievable that they would put the phone down on a customer, amongst other things. But I suppose these things can happen. Still calling it exaggerated at best.

Customer service is a lottery. I know that most of them just have to read from scripts, but we recently had experiences with two cruise companies, one small one big. The small one couldn't do enough to help us and even gave us a free upgrade. The large one P&O put the phone down on my wife when she very politely asked whether we could get an upgrade similar to the ones they had just given our friends, having first being obviously lied to saying 'we don't do that'. She even offered to pay for it and was told we'd have to cancel, lose our deposit and book again. Unbelievable!

And don't get me started with the cluster procreation of customer service Talk talk provide. Talk talk and P&O are two companies i'll not be using again.
