The bidding contest for Liverpool FC may not be over, the BBC can reveal.
The runner-up in the contest, Peter Lim, a Singapore billionaire, is to approach Liverpool's board with a view to making a higher offer for the club.
According to sources close to Mr Lim, he was the club's preferred bidder in the closing stages of the auction.
He had talks with Liverpool's chairman about how to announce his takeover, such was the apparent confidence that he would win the contest.

He's probably got a bit more net worth than NESV, but not so much as to make a huge difference. LFC is already behind the 8 ball, they need to find someone who will both pay off the debt and inject new funds. You're talking at least a 500-600 million proposition just to pay off the debt and get into a competitive stadium situation. This doesn't even include players...Billionaire benefactors take on clubs like Chelsea and Man City because they're cheap to acquire. Pool won't be cheap.

Re the stadium situation: if Liverpool cant bag a Sheikh or oligarch with multiple billions, new owners must surely need to look closely at a shared stadium? Debt pay off + stadium build + player investment = tall order in these straightened times.

The Yanks I win the court case and there is no option but to put them into administration - or rather, the only other option would be to roll on the loans to the original Yanks, replace Broughton, Ayres and Purslow (who would have been left looking utter fools) with creatures of Hicks' choosing and try to get Hicks and Gillett (or rather the company holding Gillett's shares at the moment) to walk away by offering them more money or a better deal (which might happen anyway given the reemergence of the Lim bid).

It is also a bit weird that RBS are the ones who are conducting the initial legal action (and probably picking up the tab, fellow taxpayers) - you would think from everything Broughton and Purslow have said that this would be a club matter, and it is hard to see how they would be able to argue that a sale was reasonable and in the shareholders interests when the entity which benefits most is not the shareholders but rather the bank.
