I was brought up on tales of him macca,my old fella told me straight he had his flaws, such as going missing in away games, however he worshipped him for his talent, how he glided across the pitch and his standing amongst blues at that time was almost god like,he is still to this day his hero, and mine by default, they say you should never meet your hero's,that couldn't be further from the truth with Alex,an absolutely fantastic fella who genuinely is mystified as to why he is still held with such affection by fellas like me who have never even seen him play:)
glided over the mud did Alex great in the air too hung waiting for the ball, my older 67 year old brother met him the golden vision he was - when Bally joined seeing those two play together was like magic!

Same as me mate I did see him play but for me Bally was always my idol.Saying that my dad loved Young as did a whole generation of blues so thats good enough for me.
Happy Birthday Alex
yes Paul my dad took me at 9 62/63 night game v Bolton Park end stand fantastic experience Alex scored I think we won 3-1 not sure his skill was unbelievable they were animals him and Roy Vernon were telepathic Happy birthday Alex

I agree with most, Alan Ball was the best Everton player I have seen but there was a Godlike about Alex. What would he be worth now?

A friend of mine Frank O'Brien sadly died about 5 years ago, Franks best friend was the late comedian Eddie Flanagan and being in their company
a couple of times in The Hare & Hounds in Huyton was something special. During the 70s & 80s Frank, his brother Gordon and a few of my mates
would always meet in The Hermitage (Cherry Lane) for a pint or two before the game and a pint or three after the game, Frank was always the one to bring up Alex, especially if we'd played badly. A bit long-winded, so I'll cut to the chase. Frank, it seems took his wife up to Edinburgh
on holiday for a week, of course he decided to call in on someone, while he just happened to be in Loanhead one day. After asking a local if
God lived nearby, they were kindly pointed in the right direction, and sure enough in the front garden were God and his wife. Needless to say
Frank couldn't open his mouth, so his normally quiet wife had to do the talking. They were invited into the house by Gods wife for a cuppa, once again Franks wife had to do the talking, in the end Frank managed to tell Alex how much he loved him, and I'm sure the Golden Vision was
suitably embarrassed. I can't remember whether I have posted this before, if so, sorry.

Eddie Flanagan my that rolls back the years what a great comedian he was, sat on a stool like Dave Allen brilliant you could not get up to have a tinkle when he was in charge of his audience - also stayed on stage for a age brilliant comedian comparing him to John Bishop now! Just not fair!
On Subject Alex Young relied on the great Roy Vernon in fact Roy's Goal tally was higher, but it was the wee no 9 who on his day was ahead of his time unplayable as he ghosted pass defenders, a class act both of them
Happy birthday to him a genius of a footballer in a blue shirt!

Never had the pleasure of seeing him play in the flesh myself, but my older brother still waxes lyrically to this day about the Golden Vision.

Did get to meet the great man and Dave Hickson in a suite at GP about four or five years ago - everyone in the room was smiling like we'd all won the lottery. Such gentlemen, both of them.

And the goal he scored in that 3-1 tonking of Manure at the start of the 66-67 season was sheer poetry in motion, one of my all time favourite Everton goals.

Many happy returns Alex Young, come and visit again soon.

When I was an apprentice in the early '60s, I used to take a haversack (Lunchbag for flask and butties) to work. I was 'doodling' at dinner-time
with a pen on the inside flap of the bag.....it read Alex Young is God. My immediate boss was a 'Bible-Thumper', so it didn't go down too well with him when he saw it, he threatened suspension and even said I should be sacked, luckily enough he didn't have the power to Hire & Fire. I worked with that man for nearly 5 years and we hardly ever spoke. I realise now that I should have apologised at the time, but didn't. He was like a Dickensian schoolmaster without the violence. As kids in those days, we never starved like our parents probably did. When you got a job
it was great, half your money to your Mum and the other half to blow on one night out and go to see God on the Saturday.

Never saw anybody as lethal in the air as Alex, he was about 5ft. 8ins and constantly scored headed goals in crowded penalty boxes, his ability to go past a man was legendary and he had a wicked shot with either foot. Was he the greatest player I saw for the blues? No that has to be Alan Ball. Alex could go missing in games and was inconsistent whereas Bally was a hand full every game for the whole game. Make no mistake though Alex Young was some player.
