Alcohol … how’s your relationship with it ?

Drink problem? I drink, I get drunk, I fall down. No problem :pint2:

Actually I don't drink much at all, a glass of wine with my tea and a tot of rum late evening and that's it. Very rarely go out to a pub and even then it's only for a pint. When I was working it was 8 weeks on and 4 weeks off, and the evil drink was absolutely verbothen for the whole 8 weeks.

Can't lie, I love having a sesh but I'm managed to reel myself in from a sesh every weekend back to 3 or 4 a year. Its still a mental fight to not have one more tin on a Saturday night but its a fight I'm starting to win. Wanting to exercise more and seeing the effects of alcohol on the night before doing long runs or cycles has helped. Family life also as I'm now being relied upon as a Taxi service.

My choice of poison would be, in no particular order, Beer/Wine/Whisky/Gin. Not a fan of sparking wines or cocktails but when in Rome and all that......

I've always enjoyed a pint or eight. There were periods (particularly during my 20s and 30s) when I probably enjoyed it too much.
I have never drank at home though, always in pubs and I have never really liked spirits.
These days I limit my drinking and rarely go out more than two nights a week.
I'll be out tonight like. :pint2::cheers:

Changed as I got older. Now if I have a decent session I wake middle of the night with my fight or flight triggered so pissed me off. Don’t want to be one of them lizards telling the young posse that hangovers get worse as you get older but they do and they leave a mental mark for a few days. I’m a tedious fitness biff anyway so seldom drink and very rarely at home, only with company I love and who can only engage over alcohol.
I get this too. If it's a big session I'll get home and pass out for 3-4 hours then wake up in fight or flight. It's like a double whammy of being hungover and sleep-deprived.

Probably only once or twice a week at the very max for me. Never just a few though - I don't really enjoy just 1-2 beers, on the Friday/Saturday or whatever it might be that I do drink it ends up a proper sesh

" The Fear " as the Irish call it.

This is why I drink in moderation now, as from the moment you wake up following a decent drink, you can`t settle, you`re snappy, irritable and find it really hard to concentrate. You generally just want to be on your tod and out of the way.

If you`ve never suffered from it, it`s a hard one to explain.

There`s a classic line in the film Withnail and I - " Pass me a valium, for I have The Fear ".
