Alcohol … how’s your relationship with it ?

I've been drinking beer for over fifty years, but my habits have changed over time. I drank with mates at local pubs two or three nights
a week until my mid thirties.

We bought a house in a dry area, no pubs, about forty years ago and drank mainly at monthly golf BBQ's and at home.

These days we go out occasionally on Sundays for pub lunches with friends, and apart from that I drink beer for about an hour
before dinner, which me and my wife share the cooking of.

I love IPA and Pale Ales and match British style brown ales, which I love, with pints of 50/50 Kilkenny and hoppy pale ale cocktails.

It's late afternoon now and I'm looking forward to my first in about an hour. I'll start with a can of IPA.

Drinking tonight because the missus has a chest infection and my youngest has scarlet fever... My throat has been scratchy since mid morning and I'm now aching all over so it could be my last drink for a few days and I'll need something to help me sleep...

That's my excuse anyway... Oh, and me and my eldest both got hole in ones at the crazy golf in Formby today

Drink only on occasions I have to

Holiday
New year's
Weddings or other similar events

Thats it so a few times a year, I only associate alcohol with social things like that it never enters my thoughts otherwise

Trying to cut back. Hit mid 40s and my system isnt burning the calories like it used to. I love a beer when grilling outside and love a red wine chilling with the missus. But let's be honest this weather is [Poor language removed] and just sucks all enjoyment out of ya
