Brave as a lion - put his head in where it hurts and has the marks to prove it, Superb at backs-to-the-wall defending, but wasn't the quickest so he often got found out when turned by a forward, especially towards the end when his legs had gone. As a passionate Blue he realised his lifelong dream of playing for the club - a great Evertonian.
Him and David Weir together. I liked them but i shuddered at the lack of pace, remember Craig Bellamy doing an easy one two, racing about 50 yards clear and slotting when we played Newcastle. While that ****house was celebrating Weir and Stubbsy were still attempting their three-point turn.
think he only ever fancied playing for Everton which was fair enough, but when he played for SAFC for a season he was an utter disgrace. Made Gary Breen look like Beckenbauer
I think he was a very good defender. Not quite as good as Weir but there wasn't much in it. But in my opinion David Weir is the best defender that i've seen at Everton since the 80's. Weir was quality and I actually cant remember him making a mistake, although i'm sure he did a couple of times. I remember watching a game at Goodison against Arsenal where Weir humiliated Henry and Henry lunged in with a two footed challenge on him but didn't get sent off for some odd reason.
Good player and a real leader, not as good as Gough or Weir in my opinion, but still an excellent free transfer, was probably a first chioce a little too long with Moyes playing Lescott LB.
Stubbs was boss in a similar way to Weir, but not quite as good as Weir was. His free-kick against Spurs was a great moment as was the one against united although we ended up getting screwed over by Iain Turner in that one.
Had cancer too right? Incredible dedication and courage to come back from that and be a first class defender, rated him highly. Boss on sensible soccer too.
Terrific both he and Weir - i lost count of the amount of clean sheets and games we won 1-0 the year we got into the CL, lets be honest we were mega under the cosh in a lot of games and teams couldnt break us down. Stubbs, Weir and Carsley at times it was impossible to get anything past them.
I remember at the time most going ape that Yobo wasnt in the team - doesnt matter how good things are people will always have a gripe.
