Airport scams

I'm liking this thread, it's descending into Tory @-Rob- vs. Jeremy Corbyn incarnate @chrismpw
I take great offence at being called a tory. I'm just accepting of the fact we live in a capitalist society where people and businesses are out to make a profit.
I accept that supplying a produc with a higher demand generates a higher profit whereas Chris sees that as a scam. Differing views that's all.

HS2 is just a scam where government ministers have an excuse to throw billions of our taxes at government approved contractors who a vastly overpricing the operation. I would wager that the CEOs and investors in said contracting companies have been to the same public schools and universities as the ministers. It seems this is how the uk works.

It's how the world works my brother, not just the UK. You think that people get good deals from the government without greasing the wheels in places like China, Thailand and Cambodia? Dream on brother.

Relax, it was tongue in cheek. The debate is all good. More mocking the unexpected turn the thread has taken.

I fly qantas. I get an uber the airport. I go into the lounge before my flight. I get free choice of seats. I get a free meal. I get free alcohol on the flight. I get free baggage. (Yes, I am aware they are built into the price, not actually free)

Perhaps it is not the flying or the airport that is the problem, it is choosing budget airlines.

As long as the airline is decent and reliable I just go as cheap as possible. Don't care about extra baggage, flight drinks/meals, comfier seats, whatever. It's only a few hours out of my day and more money to spend on the actual holiday.

I say! Ding dong

Re the cost of things in airports, it's perhaps worth considering that the floor rental and salaries are considerably higher than a corresponding shop on the high street. Many airports also want a percentage of sales, as the example below from San Francisco airport illustrates.

Well, yeah – whenever I fly with Virgin to the States it's the same story as your Qantas description, but a lot of the airport stuff is a scam or feels like it. Not just flying budget.

For example, it's like three pound extra for some KFC meals in Manchester airport vs going to a KFC shop that is ten/fifteen minutes away. They've got you inside and know you can't do anything else.

The world is corrupt. What's particularly galling about the uk though, is that most here dont see the corruption- its hidden behind fancy names, red tape, a complicit media (run by the same millionaires from the same schools) and gullible citizens - sorry- we're not citizens officially, we're subjects. Then to top that the mexua fallsover itself to highlight corruption in other countries while the red top readers snort decisively at other regimes.
