Air Fryers, any good?

Visiting the parents.

We did a full Sunday roast tonight in it, mum was absolutely amazed.

Two drawer 9.6L Ninja air fryer.

Drawer one, half shoulder of lamb, rubbed with garlic powder, salt, pepper and lots of rosemary, then about 20 sprays of sunflower oil and all rubbed in. Set to 45 minutes at 180 degrees, press start.

On the hob, parboil peeled and unevenly chopped potatoes for 10 minutes.

Drain, give a good shake in the pan to rough up their sides a bit to get nice and crispy later, allow to cool 5 minutes, then put in a bowl and about another 20 sprays of the oil and the same spices all rubbed in.

Now add them to drawer 2 of the air fryer, set at 30 minutes and 200 degrees. Give a good mix after 15 minutes, same with lamb, taking some of the lamb juices and mixing in with the potatoes.

At the flip stage, add vegetables, in this case brocoli and sprouts, to pan of boiling water on hob, leave 15 minutes simmering.

With 2 minutes left, throw in the Yorkshire puddings to the potato drawer, done.

Now the air fryer is off, take out lamb and wrap in foil. Leave potatoes in.

Add some of the lamb juices to a gravy pan, alongside the water from the veg, three OXO cubes, a splash of Worcester Sauce, a teaspoon of rosemary and a tablespoon of gravy browning, bring to boil, add cornflower that's been mixed with cold water in a small cup and whisk to thicken.

Serve.

About an hour from start to finish - fantastic.

Lamb tasted unbelievable, and took half the time it would in the oven.

I was sceptical that the potatoes would crisp up with such little oil, but they really did, and the added juices finished them off beautifully. They had a kind of dry crisp, not glistening in oil like they can be on a Sunday roast. Fluffy inside.

Mum usually makes them in the oven with half a block of lard, and they always taste unreal, but obviously really unhealthy.

Next time will add a bulb of garlic in there to roast, and some fresh rosemary as opposed to the dried stuff.

Served with mint sauce and cold HP Sauce.

10/10, will do again.

Mrs came back home today with an air fryer that she got in the January sales.
She's been going on about them for ages and we've a couple of friends who have them who swear by them.
Problem is, I can't be doing with microwaved stuff, just not nice and that contraption only gets used for defrosting.
In general I've not liked any of the cooking gimmicks from the George Formby grill to the pop up toaster lol
Opening my question to the wider audience here to hear some honest replies from fellow blues.
Make is a Ninja which she says is widely praised but I've never heard of them. So, crap or worth a go?
Bottled it tonight and opted for a take away whilst the game is on by the way:pint2:
If you have a big koff 900mm oven or even a 600mm, its a waste for a couple of baked spuds.
2X spuds 4mins in the micro, 15 @ 180c * in the airfryer.
Does nice roast pork and crackling, good for oven chips too.
Plenty of recipes online

*depends on model obvs

They're decent enough.

Not as amazing as the Air Frying Taliban claim they are.

As others have said, it's nothing more than a shrunken convection oven. You can definitely manage without one. (as all the days leading up to your Mrs bringing one home on Thursday has proved.)

They’re brilliant. Use them exactly like at oven but will cook stuff in 50% of the time with no need to pre-heat. The food is always cooked evenly too.
People just need to be aware though that a lot of these air fryers, even though they cook things in half the time, actually cost more to use than the oven would have! To save time they're great, but not always to save money!

Standard oven is 1000 watts.

Dual Drawer Ninja 2500 watts.

Depends how old you oven is and how small your fryer is - fair point though.

I've the Ninja Multi Cooker 9in1 thingy ma bob.

I like to cook a rost Beef in it for 6 hours at 60 degrees C. This frees up the oven for everything else needed for a Sunday Roast including the Yorkshire Puddings.
