Aiden McGeady

Exactly this. I wish I could sit on my arse earning somewhere between £20k to £60k (nobody seems to know how much he's on). Christ the more you think about it the more mental it really is.

With some like this chappie money coming in is more important than playing and career.

Absolutely no need for that. You know nothing about the man yet come out with that? He turned Scotland down as a kid for their under 16s when he was playing for the Irish kids teams. That's hardly a late move to justify such a comment is it? Plus he had to put up with dog's abuse from the Rangers fans down the years.

He is like the traitors in the hit motion film " Braveheart " but worse.

Deffo no loan with option to buy.

Only a perm deal.

Loan gives buyer chance to see that he really is utter mince. Whereas now youtube makes him look decent.
And today Martinez comes out and says exactly the opposite. I wish we'd just bin him, he's crap and is clearly not arsed about footy anymore or we'd at least be hearing him moan about not getting in the team.

Martinez also confirmed that Aiden McGeady was likely to leave the club on loan until the end of the season with three clubs chasing his signature - but insisted that the Republic of Ireland winger would not be allowed to leave permanently and would be back with Everton for pre-season training after the European Championships.

“Aiden McGeady has had three enquiries and we will work with his representative to make the final decision,” he explained.

“It will be a short term deal so Aiden can finish the season strong then have possible involvement with the Republic of Ireland.

“He has one opportunity to go abroad and two domestically. But we are in the early stages yet.

“It’s not a view to a permanent deal. It would be a loan and he would return to compete in pre-season with a view to next season.”

winger told to get off his 'backside' and take pay cut

Aiden McGeady in action
Aiden McGeady has been told to get off his "backside" and take a pay-cut to save his Euro 2016 dream.

The Everton winger will be allowed to leave on loan this month and though McGeady is keen to remain in the Premier League, a clutch of Championship sides are after him.

A return to Celtic has been ruled out because the Parkhead club would be unable to match his wage demands but the 29-year-old has been warned that his hopes of making the Republic of Ireland squad for this summer's Euros may hinge on him being prepared to take a pay-cut.

“For Aiden, the day of reckoning is coming again,” out-spoken Irish football pundit Eamon Dunphy said.

Speaking on RTÉ 2fm’s Game On, Dunphy, added: “He is not going to have another major championship in him.

"And every day he sits on his backside and doesn’t play, he is losing a day of what will probably be the most fruitful thing in his life.

“So he has got to come to terms with where he is. And there is more to life than money. I think he should go.

“Does he want to play for Ireland? He should want to get away and play six months in the Championship or wherever it is, take the wage cut and be a player again.

“If he sits on his backside for six months...I don’t respect that. I can understand it, but I wouldn’t really respect it.”

McGeady has made just one appearance for Everton this season - a disappointing 45 minute display against Barnsley in the Capital One Cup - and Roberto Martinez feels a short spell away from Goodison is vital.

“I left places in my career where I took pay cuts so that I could play meaningful football; and that’s the word, meaningful," Dunphy said.

“And I think if you don’t do that, you lose your own self respect, you lose your competitive edge and it’s no good.

“I’m not unsympathetic to him in a certain way, but in another way, I am. You have to have your pride as a professional sportsman. You have to get up in the morning and want to work.”

He went on to say: “I think that Aiden McGeady should think about more than his salary.”

Our fault for giving him a silly contract, I don't blame him for sitting on it

Alongside Alcaraz, this lad is one of Martinez's two big mistakes in the transfer market. Everything else has been pretty much spot on
